Marmite

I have tried it in paste before. And also glugged boilys in it with a little oil. As far as eating it goes i bought the tesco own brand just to see what it was like and it seems to be more like the old stuff. And a lot cheaper, Worth a look.
Except that I was talking about Boots' Vitamin B tabs, not Marmite. I don't think Marmite would work on a hair rig.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

I tried the B12 thing and it seems to atract Indian mossies !

Sounds like more hokum dreamt up by nurtritionists.

But, (if it works like cory says), were you surrounded by every cat in the district? :D

John.

I don't know about mosquitoes, but cat's and dogs both go nuts for Boots Vitamin B or Yeast Extract tabs. Try it for yourself, I am sure that like Steve you'll have positive results.

Gelatin?

I have a faint memory of carp baits made from gelatin being briefly popular; or is my memory playing tricks on me?

Right, back to topic.

Popped into Tesco's and bought a tub of their Yeast Extract.

Took it home and tried it.

It is MUCH darker than contemporary Marmite - no error there.

It is a tad less stickier.

...and (very subjective this) it does, TO ME, taste stronger than contemporary Marmite, so I prefer it.

A trawl through the obfuscations of the labels revealed that Marmite lists celery amongst their spices, Tesco's doesn't. OTOH, Tesco's lists "Parsley Extract" as a component, Marmite doesn't.

(I have never heard of "parsley extract" before, but a new expression springs to mind - "Taking the Parsley")

So there you have it - my letter to Uniliver will tell them that I have voted with my feet. The only trouble is that "Tesco's Yeast Extract Soldiers" doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Just hope the fish also prefer it.

I think celery only gets listed because it's something people are sometimes allergic to; see here. Parsley is an umbellifer too, I wonder if that's why it also gets listed explicitly, despite not being on the mandatory list?

What happened to people with life-threatening allergies before they became such a public health concern? I don't remember anyone at school being seriously allergic to anything, and we weren't banned from having peanuts - I wonder what changed?
