I`m sure those carp were swimming around with mini chain saws, i had the braid snap about 2cm below the swivel, a hook snap (won`t be using those again! ), and one mangaed to get off......to make matters worse, when i reeled in after nothing for a few hours, it revialed one of the blitters had chainsawed of the hook hooklink !!! no bleep on the alarm, just no hooklink!!

Anyways, was entertaining

Well done on the three you caught Crayers! Were they a decent size?

The three incidents you mention, re your braid & hook snapping all seem strange.

I once had a hook straighten out, but I've never had one snap. Since I upgraded to the more specialist Carp hooks I've never had a problem (although I've also read on here that having a hook straighten is better than a break off)

I used to lose all too many fish because of my dodgy knot tying - but the likes of Dazler & Costers put me right on that & now I can re-locate the Islands

Is the water you were fishing very snaggy or got a stony bottom? Also, I've been told that swan mussels can nick your bait & hook leaving you with just a bit of your hooklink when you reel in.

At least you caught though geezer! Happy Days :D

lol Kev, just trying to speak to you now but u must be away from ur comp.

Rabster, the hooks i got were a free sample from someone ( NOT YOU CHRIS!! if ur reading!) and i will not be using them again, they look cheap and i am disapointed in myself for using them as they didnt look strong enough!

Anyways...glad to catch and definately an exciting day......fish were small....biggest 7 3/4 lb , 5lb and 4.5 lb...tell you what tho, they dont have give a good fight up at bradshaws!

And the runs i snapped on screamed away...they were DEFINATELY doubles lol

Chris

Love your enthsusiasm; matchman to carper in one short month, we will have you catching Trout and Pike soon.

After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead.

Chris, those freebie hooks you got, we're they Mustad ones off a magazine?? If so take note Dazler!

Also, the fish you mention I wouldn't say are small. I bet all three put a good bend in your rod.

My favourite fish caught today was only about 1lb, I thought it was a bream or something - but I tell you what, it was one of the most beautifully conditioned & coloured mirrors I've ever caught, twas a damn pleasure to catch it I tell thee!

(BTW - What Dazler would give for a 1lb carp right now, are you home yet mate, from dead mans swim?)

keep pluggin away! buy the best rig stuff and line your budget allows. Stick to the simple rig's dont just follow the carp press.Keep it simple and watch the photo album grow :)
