I'm always surprised at the question (each year) about if there are mackerel showing.

1. Wait till the other guys are getting plenty or YOU may be wasting your time.

2. You don't want the mackerel showing; you want the whitebait etc they're feeding on to be showing.

As an instance, I could have caught 5 mackerel on Kingmere today; but I chose not to, because in 2 or 3 weeks I can catch 25 in 5 minutes.

I could have gone out in The Channel, 10 more miles and bagged up on them (????).

We'll fight them on the beaches; but only when there's food enough to attract them.

Wait till the water temp. reaches 15/16 deg C rather than the present 13 deg C.

Plenty of mackerel under the Dorset cliffs yesterday - several caught, and we weren't even fishing for them (Black Bream were the target, and there were stacks of them too).

....but as HA says, what's the hurry ?

Where were you; in the West bay area or around Swanage?

Sue and I have a sea trip lined up in June and are aiming to have a shot at the Black Bream as well what was the successful bait Squid?

Ragworm tipped with sliver of squid.

There should be Black Brean aplenty by June, anywhere from Littlehampton westwards :D

(Well, over the right ground for bream, of course)
