Drennan Super Specialist Barbel Eye Size

I just tried putting nash bullet 12lb/ 0.35mm through the eye of a size 12 drennan super specialist barbel hook and managed to put it through twice. I tried it with a size 7 and it went through 3 times. I don't suppose that's much use really

JUst looked at Bowlers rig again and it doesn't look safe to me. His mainline and bottom are exactly the same and the feeder/weight is attached to the bottom with a fixed swivel

If the mainline snaps then the feeder's stuck to the fish.

I couldn't quite understand what he said in the video, but isn't the only physical connection between feeder and line the lower swivel, merely held in place by friction in the lower bead (just like the Fox Method Maggot Feeder and Drennan Inline)?

Yes, it's 'semi-fixed' and completely safe. The connector between mainline and hooklength is a swivel, which is pulled into a rubber sleeve in the feeder, which holds it in position. The same way you'd fish an inline lead.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

People seem to think the more complicated a rig the better it'll work, which just isn't true.

It does doesn't it? My rigs this season are ridiculously complicated!:unsure:

Have you got any pic's of your new ideas ?

No pics at the mo, they did work pretty well at the weekend but I didn't do a comparison to simpler rigs!

Once I'm happy with them I'll post some pics.

Excellent, look forward to your findings.

Sadly i cant give you conclusive results on this one as i don't have any size 14 barbel hooks or 12lb Xline.

However 12lb Xline is rated at 0.26 and i can just about get some Diawa 8lb/0.265 three times through the eye of a size 12 super specialist hook, but i could only get some 0.30 through twice.

I also found that a size 8 super specialist hook is almost identical in size, shape and eye size to a size 10 super specialist barbel hook.

So i would guess you can get 12lb Xline three times through the eye of a size 14 super specialist barbel hook but nothing any thicker.

Hope that helps a bit.

Excellent stuff, thank you very much Lutra.

Now for the finishes touches to my set up, a 'Tench & Bream' transfer to apply to my 1.5lb barbel rod...don't want to be using the wrong rod!
