Carp facing extinction

i remember seeing something on tv on the discovery channel or animal planet or one of those channels it was showing the people who kill carp shooting them with bow and arrows and they said they do it becoz they eat stuff burried in the banks which causes particles of mud to erode away and discolour the water and eventually the banks collapse.

happy new year!!! boilies

I think we have to be careful before we go off "half cock". The authorities in the U.K. (for all their faults) are very cautious about importing any foreign species. They are especially cautious after the fracas with Zander and Moggies. They may be Carp, but, being geneticaly modified, I am sure that the authorities will ban them.

Kleinboet, I would like to think that you are right! But there are those in authority that don't like the wee beasties for their JCB type behaviour. Me, I love 'em! The thought of a pike that could munch a 40 pound carp! Now, that would be some fish!!!!!

Peter, I do realise that Carp may cause a bit of damage, but as with other "imported" (as were Zander and Catfish) fish they are under the EA's wing. You have to remember they were imported by the monks for food a looooong time ago.

If they wanted rid of the Carp they would have to get rid of the "imports".

Perhaps Peter objects to pike anglers putting out multiple rods, turning on the bite alarms and then wandering off a few swims, to talk to their mates and have a "social".

I certainly do.

It was, I think, first successful in France, in a walled in estate from what I remember, but it was first tried on an island over here. It didn't work because the rabbits on the island did not carry fleas.
