I've already thanked the bailiffs earlier on this topic but would like to do so again. Without them there would certainly be no Fish-In, and I know what it takes out of them.

What many don't know is that the bailiffs don't get paid anything except their expenses for all their work throughout the year. They do get some fishing of course, but this year there's been a great deal of work and very little fishing.

I'd also like to thank my wife, Peggy, not only for cooking 3 BBQs on successive days, but also for all the shopping and cleaning up. In fact, although not an angler herself, she's the perfect angler's wife. I never get any pressure not to go fishing, and that works perfectly because I choose to spend lots of time with her. And that's exactly what I'll be doing over the next few days.

Another vote of thanks go to Steve Campbell, firstly for providing breakfasts from 6am on the Saturday of the Fish-In, and secondly for the very useful laminated photos of the lakes showing the location of the swims.

Last but not least thanks too to Anderoo for the enhanced photos of the lakes. They really show the bars etc to great effect.

Well done all and particularly Anderoo for the huge Tench in atrocious conditions. Maybe take the surfboard next time?

Expect to see a plethora of bivvy reviews after that.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

Firstly I must thank Steve for our invitation to visit his lovely fishery once again, naturally also a big thanks to Peggy, Terry, Glyn and Tom for all their hard work and assistance.

Now, what's all this talk about terrible weather conditions, eh?

Another thanks goes to Steve for our swim selection. It was like a different world weather-wise compared to most other areas of the fishery which was certainly appreciated by Jo.

I managed 2 fish, on Sunday morning I broke my Wingham duck at the 5th attempt with a 6-8 Male Tench and at approx 6.35 that evening I broke my old tench pb (7-2) with the lovely 8-3 fish shown below.

Well happy, as you can probably tell!

I'm already being asked about the date of next year's Fish-In. It's now always a 3 day event finishing on the Monday before the end of May Bank Holiday.

This means that in 2010 it'll be the latest dates possible, Saturday May 22nd to Monday May 24th, as opposed to the earliest possible this year.

Edit note: The 2010 dates are now in my signature.

Sorry for my delayed report as I got home yesterday from staying at Budgie House and didn't feel so good in the evening and went to bed! - Sorry

My weekend really got of to a bad start as I "have to" deal with the Wingham Tackle trailer in the packing up, I should have really done it on the night before! It was around 7am before we got off to Wingham.

Once arrived at Wingham we were greeted by old faces and new faces. My job was to find out where "ours" (budgie and me) fishing pegs was allocated to. Mine was Peg 21 and Budgie in Peg 19.

Budgie decided to stay in the clubhouse while I dealt with the setting up the bivvies, rods etc etc. The biggest mistake I made that I decided to peg myself out in peg 19 as it was a bit sheltered from wind then started getting my bivvy and rod erected in the peg then I realised that I have made a mistake! that I was supposed to be in peg 21!

So it was a bit of walking to Peg 19 where the "wingham tackle trailer" was drop at Peg 21. I ask Glyn if it was ok to move Budgie peg from 19 to 20 so we could be near each other if we wanted assisting in netting etc etc.

So again set up budgie bivvy and his fishing equipment in peg 20.

Time really files by as everything was all set up before noon when Budgie came back from socialising from the clubhouse and been to various pegs.

After the Saturday BBQ - I started to look for the feature with the marker rod - I found two gravel bars and a deep gully of 14ft about 30 yards out before raising to the first line of the gravel bar. Then Budgie came to me laughing his head off in a bit of complaining that he decide to have a nap on his bivvy bed and went down to ground level because the ground was too soft to hold his "oversize excess" :D So really needed some house bricks to stop him sinking into the ground! Again Glyn come to the rescue with some wood sheet and a few house bricks!

My three rods was casted out in the 1st line of the gravel and shortly before 8pm the right rod gave indicting fish taking the bait which I stuck and immediately lost the fish - i suspected it was a pike grab the boilie bait i was using at the time. So I quickly recasted in the same spot as the wind was picking up all the time.

Throughout the night I was getting various bleeps from all three rods but nothing was happening. That night I couldn't really settled down as I wanted to as it seems something wasn't really right in my bedchair height (no I wasn't sinking into the ground like budgie did!) - I don't really know what it is as seem to have the same problem everytime I fish at Wingham - it probably the way I sleep I suppose! I saw plenty of fish rising to the surface that night but nothing from the bottom of the hookbait was - so fish was in the area ok.

Finally the rain came down just before 4am as I was wake and recasted the bait and put some more bait out. Again I was getting some bleeps from the bite alarms - so decided to bring the bait set up a bit closer to me to me.

On Sunday morning despite the lack of sleep - I decide to move back the bivvy as I felt that I was far too close to the rods and not enough room for me to cast out - so everything was reorganize my peg!

Nothing really happen on Sunday despite the wind got more windy. I kept on recasting the bait out to build up a carpet of bait ready for Sunday night. Again I was still getting bleeps throughout the night but still nothing happening. It wasn't until nearly dawn again where again the right rod came alive but the bobbin stop half way up and went back down to the ground.

By Monday morning - the rain came down again and I really had enough of the fishing as nothing was really happen - in the swims but I had do a meeting with John (flying tench as he wanted two of my bobbins to use) I told Budgie that I finished the fishing and he decided to do the same and started to put everything way in the bivvy but left me to repack the Wingham tackle trailer! :( while he also help out john when I got back. Trying to pack the trailer in the wind really over did it for me as I was really tired and bit of pain from my left shoulder injury I had for the last two months.

It the second time I have really blank at Wingham but that didn't matter as I am glad to get out of the house and do a bit of fishing instead but as I am a member of the Wingham that I be going back for more fishing in a few days time! if the weather warm up a bit!

But as always with Wingham and the Fish Ins it was just great to be there and catch up with everyone again.

I would like to thanks the generosity and hard work of Steve, Peggy, Terry, Tom and Glynn plus Steve Campbell (for the late breakfast) and the company of all you AnglersNeters!

Thank You.

I can't wait for next year

Growing old is inevitable but growing up is optional

Richard Capper PB eel of c4lbs

Terry T-Shirt (Terry Read) eel of about 1 1/2lbs.

Cliff 63 (Cliff Townsend)eel c2lbs

Anthony78 (Ant Chance) eel c2lbs

Jeffwill (Jeff Williams) eel c1 1/2lbs

Angly (Geoff Brown)PB eel c2lbs

Will Wilkinson eel c2lbs

Jedibond (Ian Shiels) eels of c2lbs & 2 1/2lbs

Tigger (Ian Woods) plus c10 eels

I think I am noticing a pattern here with a few exceptions, not many people are trying to put their eels on the scales. Even a few suspected PBs went back without wieghing, and Tigger doesn't even want to keep exact count of them, let alone what they weighed!

I caught two. The first one weighed "Nnnnnnngg get back in the water you spawn of Hell" and the second weighed "No NO NO NO please don't do that - Oh you little monster not all over my landing net".

Or words to that effect, possibly slightly fruitier.

Yeah your right there Steve, I was just plagued with them. Everytime I cast out within a short spell the eels where straight on my maggots and I was sick and tierd of them as I wanted Tench, Bream or carp. Thinkin about it maybe it would have been worth targetting the eels with big baits (I did put over 20 maggots on a hook but a largish pike took those) to see if there was a real big one lurking.....to late now. I tried sweet corn, fake and the real thing on the bottom and popped up, boilies, dog biscuits soaked in fish oil...the list goes on besides the maggots but never had a touch on them. I did have a small perch manage to push past the eels and hook it's self on the maggot rig only to be snatched in turn by a pike which incidently let go of the poor little perch at the platform after numerous runs. Unfortunatly the perch didn't make it, it's heart must have conked out with the stress!

My plan on Sunday night was to fish on with maggots and worms and hope for the best. I'd caught my tench, and was hoping for another. A bit before midnight, it was cold, wet and I'd just caught an eel, so I packed in for the night. I think they'd have plagued me too if I'd carried on. The second one took a floatfished lob on Monday morning, and just for a second I thought I'd got another perch on <_<
