vibro

My main recollection of the Vibro was that it fought like hell! It put one heck of a bend in the rod as it was being retrieved. I caught a few pike on Vibros, but not many. More than on Colorado spoons, though (anyone remember them?). Every angling books recommended them, but I found them virtually useless. My most successful lure from that era was the Voblex, which comprised a rubber fishlike-head with a shackle-mounted blade-spinner (like the Mepps Aglia) behind. I did well on plain spoons, too - I used to buy blanks, paint them to my fancy, and equip them with appropriate swivels and hooks.

Caught my very first pike on a Colorado. A very ancient one that I lost on the next cast! As for the Voblex spinners, perch loved them!

At the end of the 60's I was a keeper on the itchen where pike and perch were taboo. I used to clear most of the pike by spinning so perhaps I'm just on a nostalgia trip but I sure would like to spin a vibro again. I remember kidney spoons with big tufts of red wool hiding the hooks as well.
