Air bags work well

My wife's 76 year-old father hit an oak tree a few days ago with his Buick. They think he hit the gas instead of the brake and accelerated into the woods adjacent to his driveway. Anyhow, here's the wreck, which was formerly a nice car. And him? He suffered a few abrasions and got a concussion out of the deal, which is a testament to how well air safety bags really work. I doubt that he would have survived the crash without one.

I doubt you'd have been able to ID him without the air bags.

That looks like a really high speed collision - he did that from a standing start after hitting the wrong pedal? :o

Glad he got out OK, anyhow.

It's oak-ay chesters. :P

A lucky escape severus, I'm glad he's alright.

That looks like some colision force, did they say what speed he had reached?

Or is it that the 'crumple zone' makes the damage look more spectacular?

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

I believe it felt a bit rooted.

WOW, that is a badly damaged car, he really is very fortunate to have walked away from it.

I heard one estimate of up to 70 mph, but that's just speculative since no one witnessed the crash except him. And I doubt that he had time to check his speed. :D

I'll see if I can obtain a photo of the tree.

If it had been a right hand drive car, the story may well have been a lot different.
