Yep your right Newt, they had to be hand cranked, the current was generated by a flywheel magneto and then thro a distributor to the plugs. I dont know much about model T's but usually the Mag produces high tension current that goes staight to the plug, as it does on old bikes and lawnmowers. one article i read seemed to indicate that the distributer was low tension so i'm a bit puzzled! Another site seems to say that coil ignition was an after market accessory

so maybe that the answer!
