Shooting carp with bows and arrows in the US. In this case it was 92 lbs and the captor is considering claiming a world record 'catch'!

If they are not going to be eaten and they are not vermin, then it does seem pointless and unfair to kill them deliberately.

That's hunting for you, unfortunately.

While I agree with you Lid, who says they aren't vermin? That's unfortunately a strong view taken in the US (that they are). I can see this discussion getting very heated as I've read a fair few of comments on youtube about something similiar. That being said I'll not argue because its not to my taste.

Ahhhhh .....'Man the Hunter' ..... there are instincts which surface in all domesticated 'wild animals'.

Sometimes, we forget that's exactly what we are .....

There's so-called 'environmental' groups which call for HUNTING/GATHERING to be banned and for organic methods of farming to take their place.

That's (apparently) called sophistication, social advancement and development (and separates us from 'other' animals).

Me? I'll still catch the odd keeper-bass, bream and plaice; gather samphire, wild mushrooms, cockles and mussels.

I'll no doubt still campaign about unsustainable, technologically-advanced profiteering, greed and ecological destruction.

But, if you live to be old enough, you'll find that right and wrong are convertible terms, dependent upon popular opinion.

A feral spiecies damaging its host enviroment is unfair, if it was a clean kill I have no real problem with it. im not being arguementative here so please dont take offence, but would have hair rig and bait then a tap on the head made a difference if the result was the same?

Someone once said to me "Dont worry It could be worse." So I didn't, and It was!

In quite a few countries carp are seen as an invasive nuisance (Australia as well ?), also other people have various different ways of hunting for their fish and don't always return them, some even eat them.

I don't think people have the right to knock things, just because they don't want to do them.

As long as everything was carried out in a humane a way as possible, there should be no problem.

I have no desire to play squash, or golf, but I don't campaign against those that do.
