Kos and Lakitira

Apache

Recommended Posts

Shortly before I went to Lakitira in Kos for two weeks, someone (I think it was on here) was thinking of going there and I offered to tell them what it was like.

I can't remember if it was someone on here, and if it was, who it was, but if they would like to let me know and I will tell them what I thought of it.

Apologies if it is the wrong forums guys.

Cheers.

Someone just wanetd to know what so of people it catered for, and what you could do there and if it was a good place to take kids.

You can windsurf, waterski, sail, snorkel, and SCUBA dive. (All included except waterskiing).

It is a brilliant place for kids of all ages, as they run clubs for kids from about 4 up to the age of 17. Each club is split into a group, (roughly by age) and each group has a leader. Activities are organised for each group, and its very relaxed and informal, so if you don't want to do an activity you don't have to, and you can just watch or go off and do your own thing.

Main restaurant is open all day pretty much, and there is a traditional Greek Taverna where the food is superb. The Taverna is open in the mornings and evenings, but guests under the age of 12 are not allowed and you have to book in advance for an evening meal.

There is what called Indy Breakfast and Dinner when all the of the Indy Club (for 14-17 year olds) meet for breakfast before going on to what ever they are doing, and dinner in the evening followed by evening entertainment organised by the Indy leaders. There are evening entertainment for adults as well, with quizzes and such like in the evening at the main bar.

The alcohol system is run along the English system, with over 18's free to buy drinks, but under 18's have to get a token from their parents every day specifying the number of drinks (and what type they are allowed) and it does work. If they don't have a token, then they will not get served. Supervision ends at 2230, but there is a nightwatchman who comes reguarly from 0000 to about 0700, checking on the resort and down on the beach where most of the Indies stay.

It is a registered RYA centre for sailing and surfing, and the instructors are very good and helpful.

The best place to stay is the villas, as they are larger than the hotel, and all of them have a sea view.

There is a separate beach for the kids (under 16/17) to sail and such like, which is more sheltered, and both beaches have staff in motor launches for help with boats if you capsize, ect. Both the main beach and kids beach have courses run such as RYA Level 1 and Stage 1 in both windsurfing and sailing.

Brilliant place to go, for kids and adults alike. I woudl really recomend going, as I spent two weeks there and loved every minute of it.

Main bar shuts at 0100, the beach bar (where most of the kids/Indies are from about 2030) shuts at 2300, and the Pool and Tennis Bars shut at about 1800 ish.

Forgot to mention, there is tennis and football coaching, and things like adult volleyball, football and waterpolo organised.
