Proposed legislation.

I know that many members don't care to dip into the conservation forum, but I suggest they look at this thread.

Look at the pdf file on the EA site to get more info.

I think this proposed legislation could have far reaching consequences on the future of angling.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Personally i think banning the removal of rod caught eels is OTT and a waste of time and money. Needlessly taking away the civil right to eat our catch is not the way i would like to see angling go.

Sorry, my fault, I blame the weather.

I wasn't refering to the eels or shad, it was the proposed legislation on removal of any coarse fish that bothers me.

The link I should have given was https://consult.environment-agency.gov.uk/p...d=1245757692878

We've discussed this many times on AN, with a majority not supporting a complete ban, but it looks like it might be brought in 'through the back door'.

Well Ive not read it all in detail yet so wont at this stage make any comment on the proposals,

However the first thing that springs to mind is if it wasnt for me being online, being a member of Anglers Net and John posting this.....................how the F was I meant to have even known about it to offer my veiws as they have asked for? Im not suprised though as this is classic ****** that Ive come to expect from the EA and indicative of this countries politics.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I only found it by 'poking' about on Eltons link Budgie.

It does seem to be 'hidden away' behind the eel and shad issue.

Just goes to show how much they realy value the input of the "grass roots" anglerJohn. Wonder if they remember him? you know EA the one who pays for you......................

When they say that they are doing this because "angling representitives" have asked for it, do they mean the Angling Trust I wonder?

120 views, and just three of us have shown any interest.

Maybe the EA have got the level of input value about right Budgie.

I take about one pike a year. Always a fish with a low probability of survival for one reason or another.

I really fancy trying a perch but can't bring myself to kill one worthy of being called a meal.

I'd also like to try a zander but have yet to catch one.

Hardly a partern that is likely to deplete stocks !

Most eels that get taken for the pot are bootlaces that have swallowed the hook anyway and are unlikely to survive.

The bigger breeding female eels that get caught are more often than not caught by specialists who would no more kill a fish that could be safely returned than they would run down the road naked shouting I love eels. Yes they might take the occasional mortality for the pot but thats it.

This is just a knee jerk catch all responce to the EA's total inability to enforce current rules and an attempt to convince people that they are doing something about the assault on fish stocks from immigrant communities.
