Why do they do it?

Picture the scene...your stalking carp in the margins.

You've got some nice dark, clothing on with some of it camouflaged material.

Your settled in position quietly without making any vibrations or quick movements.

You lower your rod and get your bait in position.

You slowly scatter a few freebies around your float and just quietly sit and wait for some action.

Can anyone guess what heppens next??

"ANY LUCK MATE?"

You grimace as you watch a wave created by the double figure carp as they flee the scene.

This is a public area and one of the things you just have to deal with. I wouldnt have minded so much if it was a kid shouting it out but this was bellowed out to me from a full grown (VERY full grown!) adult who was looking for a spot to fish.

Happens all the time, sometimes I wonder do these people ever actually fish or do they just walk around lakes with a small set of questions designed to annoy the hell out of you.

By the way "what bait are you using?" "You don't want to fish there mate, no one catches any thing in that spot".

Carefully keeping back from the edge, and with the rod kept parrellel to the edge of the pier, not waving over the water, the float-tackle is trotted along the pontoon towards the suspended bread-bag where a grey ghost has appeared near the surface.

Directly above the bread bag a muppet leans over to watch the float directly below, shouting down the pier towards you 'Any Luck Yet?'

The grey ghost melts away into the depths :(

They're everywhere!! :(

There's a lot to be said for fighting through a wide margin of 6ft nettles that work-party didn't have the courage to tackle, to trot the river

Yes but your not always safe from the 'proper' angler!

One day after baiting a succession of swims a pair of anglers from the 'running water bewhiskered fish' society water opposite witnessed me pull a chub out of my swim "only a chub?" enquired the first "yes a 4lber" I replied, 5 minutes later the second 4lb+ then a third then a fourth. As I released the last and best of 4 1/2lb I overheard the first guy say to the second "the problem is, the people round here don't realise that a chub isn't a chub until it's 5lb plus"

Well I'd much rather sit catching 4lb chub all day than have to sit next to that tw@t catching nothing!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Oh dear that means I've never caught one, oh well back to the 'first fish of a species' crusade.

You know, I could have sworn that the numerous black finned, large mouthed thumpers I've caught were Chub :D

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

It could have been worse, If he had seen you catch something he would be sat in your spot next time you wanted to fish it.

Fruit,Ive got used to that and now totally avoid it by stalking when every other angler is kipping!

Mind you a baillif did once tell me that if I didnt go and fish "properly" I would be banned..........................

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

What usually happens to me is that they just cast into my swim with a dirty great lead whilst I'm still fishing it!
