Is so, why?

 

On location T.V. news reporters are great at it! Watch their hands at the bottom of the screen as they gyrate and gesticulate in a totally meaningless manner. Why do they do it? What do they think that it actually means? Do they seriously think it can be understood? I have watched people using a mobile phone doing it for heavens sakes!!

 

It is, by and large, totally meaningless and completely incomprehensible, so why do people do it?

its because most reporters are nervous and aren't allowed to smoke fags on tv, so resort to some other kind of fidgeting!

My wife does. It is a trait of hers that I hold very dear, but I will still ridicule her on when given the opportunity......It usually ends in violence aimed at me.

Paul, can you please ask her, in the nicest possible way of course, why she does it? There just has to be a plausable answer! This is meaningful research at the upper end of intellectual curiosity :confused: .

I asked her Peter, she doesn't know why she does it. She's a very expressive person and a much better communicator than I am. Must be something to do with that I guess? :confused: Great fun extracting the Urine when she's had a few though. :D

Alledgedly, Peter, over 80% of all communication between humans is non-verbal, i.e. body language, gesture, facial expressions, eye contact etc.

Paul says that his good Lady uses gestures (more gestures than the one Chesters alludes to) and that she is an excellent communicator.

However, I find the hand gestures used by said news reporters infuriating, they look choreographed and are usually only used for emphasis and in a very wooden manner. Tony Blair does it too.

I find the use of hand gestures in a fluid, unselfconscious manner a very pleasing form of communication.

 

(Tin hat on, comfort blanket tightly clutched, awaiting Chester's ascerbic retort) :D
