I find using longer rods or bigger reels for spinning to be a bit cumbersome and tiring. [/QB]
Hi Dave,

Other than Mahaseer, I am keen on catching Murral (snake head). This is not a catch and release fish and makes excellent eating. For this, I have a 7' Shimano Beastmaster SBM210M with a Shimano Symetre 4000RI (already bought)in mind.

I have been warned not to get very heavy tackle for general spinning as it can get tiring over the course of the day. Maybe it's best to get a seperate rod for Mahaseer and have one 7' and 12' rod for general spinning, if I don't come upon a compromise 12' spinning rod.

Just for the record, I'd be delighted to help anyone irrespective of his back scratching abilities.

"Rustam the rod you mention will not be up to the job.A large ball of ragi and some lead will weigh more than the rod can cast.I also found longer (12') rods far better for keeping the line out of the flow than 9' uptiders.IMHO Uptide rods are only good for uptiding! crap for playing fish on."

Thanks, Budgie. I appreciate your opinion and will have another look.

Budgie,

Would any of these be suitable?

http://fish.shimano-eu.com/catalog/fish/pr...D=1121056787140 I am refering to BM12500SP. No idea what a spodding rod is though.

Just to make life difficult, the line bs recommended,.....'line diameter' when they talk about 'breaking strain'

Argyll, apologies for not acknowledging your post earlier. Only just saw it.

Thanks.

Oh all right its India. Me and my big mouth       :)     Paul's still somewhere between Mars and Glastonbury, he'll be down shortly.

I was merely being a little midsummer-night puckish about the way a few here can be s-o-o-o-o nice to some (when it suits them), yet perfectly vile to others...

And it continues, I see.

Paul,

You're undoubtedly in a better position than anyone else on here to give Rustam some good advice on Mahseer tackle, yet you seem reluctant ?

Apologies if you've done it by mail or PM.
