Seeking advice on a reel

It's strange how things work out sometimes. I was at an old friends house today in his garage. I see a rod sitting in a corner and check it out. What do I see?... a Penn 4500ss reel on it. I asked him if he used the rod, and to my disappointment he said yes. When I told him I was going to ask to buy it off of him he was like "yeah right man". I asked him his opinion on them and he said he loved it, 10 years old and still working great.

 

So I come home intent on trying to get one of these, telling myself I'll spend a bit more if I can find one. I get on EBay and see a 5500ss for $75 (in my price range) that looks in great shape, with the box and papers with it.

 

It was like god wanted me to get it. So I did.
