Beach fishing Oz style.

Here's a brief trip report from my last adventure about a week ago. Each winter I go over to Elliston. A small seaside town on our remote Eyre Peninsular. Its about a 7.5 hour drive so we tend to spend a few days fishing there. Our target fish is the Australian Salmon. They grow up to 6kg (rare) but they're mostly found at around 2 - 4kg. Pound for pound they'd be one of the best fighting fish around. And if you're casting lures (I use a 100g blue coloured Laser lure) they fight even better. Mostly we use a heavy sinker with wire botton, a grappling or grapnel sinker as the tide and rip can be very strong. Then its a whole or half pilchard on ganged hooks. I'm been adding a "Surf Popper" the last few years and they seem to out fish bait most of the time, so when Snatcher, on his recent visit to Oz, gave me some of his hand made flies and poppers, I was keen to try them out. Well, they worked a treat. I'm bummed that I didnt get more photo's of them but its always a little dodgy having the camera on the beach PLUS my spare batteries were flat so I only have a few pics to share.

Anyway, here's my trip in Photo's.

Here's the beach we fished most of the time. Sharinga Beach.

Here are a couple of fish caught. My mate Neil with a few (we got about 30 or more but only kept 2 each).

And me with a couple. The one on the left went 3.1kg and won me $200 for that weeks "Mystery Weight" in the comp. Leading fish is 5.2kg though. I bet that one take it out. Oh, comp is for all of winter. June, July and August. Each week there's a mystery weight and biggest fish at end of winter wins $3000 (i think).

After an early start (about 5am) we're keen for something to eat. So its bacon and egg's and beer for breakfast just behind the dunes. I'm the guy sitting ;-).

Here's a shot of one of the other beaches we fished. Looks great and there's some awesome deep gutters to fish but the fish were elsewhere.

And a Salmon with one of Snatchers flies. Funny thing happened here. Neil was ready to leave the beach so I said as I cast. "I just want to get one more on a fly so I can get a pic for Snatcher. The bait hit the water and in about 5 seconds I was pulling in this guy.

Many thanks Snatcher. I'll be giving to a yell when I've run out of these mate. They work a treat mate.

Mick.

Lovely sequence mate. looks as though you had a great time. Don't shout too loudly though you will be getting thousands of others wanting to come out here and I believe we are full now - aren't we? :D :D

Where are you going? You are getting into my stamping grounds. If you are going to Exmouth I can pass on a few tips that might be useful.

fantastic pictures mate! thanks

I'll second that, can we have some more on your next trip.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..
