Tony, I have never ben fly fishing but maybe we could meet up one day and you can show me the ropes a little, I used to live in Hemsworth so know the area even though I now live in Doncaster.

Steve

No problem I live in Kent but go up to Wakefiled regularly to visit my sister, she lives in Walton near the trout lake.

I am aiming to be up there for Easter weekend

Steve

Thinking about it Stubbs Hall Lakes, would be easier to show someone how to flyfish as Walton is boatfishing only not the best place to learn.

Ther used to be a pub at the corner of The Springs/Warrengate where you could catch almost anything.

...sorry.

The Half Moon, cought my very first fish from there.

Just remembered, the pub used to be called the Dolphin when I was a "gay" young man about town.

Sorry I'm late posting on this one. The Half Moon is like most waters in the Wakefield area. Wakefield and Walton angling club's control most of the fishing on a yearbook only basis.

The field in the middle of the oxbow of which the Half Moon is one, sank due to Parkhill pit workings in 1985, thus reducing the bankspace by half.

The river and canals are now full of fish, plenty of free fishing but if you like your trout fishing, stay with Walton Hall.

I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness I can show to any fellow - creature, let me do it now, let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.

John if Steve H has not fly fished before then its easier from the bank rather than the boat, have the new people at Walton Hall opened up the banks for fishing, assuming there is no hazard with flying golf balls.
