changing reel line

I change all my main line (every spool, whether it's been used or not) each year, usually at the end of March (once the river season is over and before I start tench/bream fishing.

Throughout the year I trim back the lines on well-used spools, a few feet here and there, just to keep the ends fresh.

I suppose there's no real need to swap unused line but it does deteriorate slowly even if unused and I'd rather not risk it. It's just one of the old 'closed season' traditions that's stuck!

This is mono of course, I have never changed braid.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

my local tackle shop as some dodgy spools of line that look like they have been in there since about 1970 on sale

buying line as always puzzled me with all the diameters and colours and little numbers that i have no clue about

i usually just go for a name i have heard mentioned or know and trust although i am sure some of the less known manufactures do some top quality stuff too, but when the float goes under or the tip swings round and you know its a good fish its always good to have confidence in your gear
