African Grey Parrot

Here is an excellent film clip of a trained African Grey Parrot on a television program. I used to own an Amazon Blue Front parrot, a specie which has nowhere near the speaking talent of African Greys. "Birdbrain" certainly does not apply to this bird.

I had some friends in Bournemouth who kept large parrots. One was an Amazon "Olly" who hated the husbands bold head. In he would go with a perfect dive bomb hitting the target like a deranged woodpecker. His wife had to put Olly back in his cage before the old man came home. And yet she could walk up the road with him on her shoulder to the local shop and he would be as good as gold. Strange

theres one and its friend that attends a stall in the summer at a carboot nearby ,not only does it hold a conversation with its owner. on watching it sitting on its perch with its friend the owner spoke to it ,mid sentence the "friend" started saying something as the first bird was responding to its owner ,mid sentence the first bird turned to it friend and said "shut up i'm talking" and carried on with the chat ,i was stunned

One time a customer of mine had an African Grey that spoke flawlessly; I was amazed when I heard someone talking in the house and found out that it was just a bird. This bird would actually call the family dog using its owners voice just to watch the dog come.

There used to be a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo in the glass house at Glasgow's Queen's Park. He eventually developed a vocabulary that Billy Conolly would have been proud of. He was removed.

Shame really. He only did what he was taught.
