fishing with the other half

over the past few months my girlfriend as been dropping hints about coming fishing with me but i dont know if its a good idea

 

i know there are a lot of women anglers out there who love being on the banks but i know my girlfriend thinks that big carp and nice tench and bream come out every five minutes like on the fishing programs

 

i suspect that she would be bored after an hour and would complain about wanting to go the toilet every 5 mins

 

or even worse she might enjoy it and wanna come with me all the time

I have to say I like it when my other hald comes along. Once she turned up put up the bivvy and then made a bbq for me! These days she doesn't like coming anymore.

 

If you really don't want her to come along just go somewhere rubbish and pick a day when its cold and wet, I'm sure she'll not want to come again after that!

A note on etiquette - if you're night fishing and getting cosy, please take a soundproof bivvy. I have had my peaceful night-time angling disturbed a couple of times by, ahem, vocal couples

An acquaintance of mine had the same scenario relatively early in his marriage, (he's in his 70s now) he took his wife to the grottiest, muddiest, most rat and mosquito infested place he could think of and she never once expressed the desire to go again.

My wife is my favorite fishing companion so it might be worth taking her along and doing your best to make the day as good as possible. She may like it or may hate it but at least she will have tried it.

Way, way, back in the dark ages, my (then) wife to be, asked to go fishing with me.

I bought her a licence, sorted some gear, and she went with me about 4-5 times a year.

Sometimes in summer, when I occassionaly I marched on thinking she was behind me, only to turn and see her frozen to the spot surrounded by bees and wasps. Cold winter days, when she literally had icicles hanging from her hair. On wet November days, when she got stuck in the mud and nearly lost her wellies. The many times I put up the umbrella and stood guard while she answered 'the call of nature'. Through all this she still went with me.

 

We got married 33 years ago, and I can only recall 2, maybe 3 times she's been with me since.

 

I sometimes wonder who was fishing for what in those early days!!!
