Snow, Snow, Snow!

Cranfield:

I am about 6 miles from Steve at Sellindge and we have had no snow since around 10am and it was all gone, even from the fields, by 11am.

Strange old weather systems on Romney Marsh. :)

That's why Romney March is known locally as The Eighth Continent!

Just a few miles away from us on the coast at Hythe it's been rain rather than snow! Just goes to show the effect of height.

Still snowing hard here but not settling on the roads, just on the grass.

Driving conditions will be extremely dangerous

We have had a few more inches of snow during the day, more still coming down, and driving conditions are as safe as anything now - nothing's moving :D

A couple more inches of snow overnight plus some drifting. Most schools in Ashford are closed - Peggy's is open.

Mind you, schools do close at the drop of a hat, at great inconvenience to parents. When Peggy was Head Teacher she never closed for snow.

Just cleared part of the terrace to put some bird food out. Real "igloo building" snow. Had to cut it into blocks to move it.

"More snow" is forecast, but the sun is shining brightly at the moment.

For anyone up at dawn, did you notice how low the half-moon (last quarter) was in the southern sky?

The moon is near what is called "minimum declination" - low (or high) declination has little effect on UK tides, but causes unequal semi-diurnal tides at lower latitudes.

Kent was "fun" yesterday, went down to the university at Canterbury for an open day. Left there just before 3pm, and by 4pm we still hadn't got out of the university grounds! I'd guess that 6" of snow had fallen during our visit, which we cut short due to the weather, supposed to stay down there for dinner before driving home. Couldn't get to the M20 as all the roads were closed, so we had to stick with the M2. Blizzard conditions, and the surface of the motorway had snow on top of about an inch of ice. Reached the M25....and hardly any snow! Amazing how localised it was, and I've never seen snowflakes so big! Very glad to get home just before 8pm, although I think I've now got a knackered clutch on the car.

I've never seen snowflakes so big!

This often happens when the temperature is just above freezing.

As I type this the snow outside is almost horizontal and I can barely see across the road!

Peggy got to school after a long journey. However many of the staff aren't in. What's worse is that this school is on an estate so most of the kids have made it. This means that many classes will be doubled up, and she may have 60 of "the little horrors"!

I live in between Maidstone & Headcorn (In Kent) have been snowed in all day, stopped snowing around 4pm after nearly 2 days of constant snow.

Tomorrows forcast is MORE SNOW then turning to rain in the afternoon, i remember the HURRICAN forecast IT WILL BE A LITTLE BIT WINDY.
