The Battle That Changed The World

AN history buffs might appreciate The Battle That Changed The World, an account of Nelson's brilliant victory at Trafalgar. This is the feature article in US News and World Report this week. Can you imagine what might have happened had Napoleon's fleet won the battle?

It reminded me of Marlborough's triumphs at Blenheim and Ramillies, which served to weaken the military power of Louis XIV and made Britain a world power.

Be good and you will be lonely.

I am going to a Trafalgar day concert at the weekend.....when I mentioned it to my DIL (34) she asked "does that mean you will be singing Roll Out the Barrel, and all those old songs?"

Den

"When through the woods and forest glades I wanderAnd hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,And hear the brook, and feel the breeze;and see the waves crash on the shore,Then sings my soul..................

"Nelson's brilliant victory at Trafalgar"

We Geordies were brought up to believe the battle was won by Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood.

Tony,

I see in that list on the link you posted the name Cochrane. Now there was a naval hero for you. His naval career and life story would be unbelievable if it were fiction. He is the man who was fictionalised by Patrick O'Brian as Captain Jack Aubrey and then later played on screen by Russell Crowe in Master and Commander: The Far side of the World . I can thoroughly recommend this book about Cochrane.
