I've read many posts on this forum, where Carp get called rotten. Anyone tell me why Carp aren't a well liked fish?

If I catch one that looks anything like your avatar then it will be most welcome (if a little inappropriate).

Anglers net has always had its fair share of carp haters. there was a time when great debates would range between the long stay bivvy brigade and those of a more purist Persuasion. we seem to have moved beyond that now as some of the more strident members no longer seem to post. However, Anglers net is a broad church accomodating a variety of views. on some forums if arn't fishing for big old goldfish and mention that you want to catch a two pound perch you are thought of as slightly dotty. i like a bit of carping but i suppose it is the way carp seem to dominate the fishing world that gets on many peoples nerves.

I have come to the conclusion after many years of reading the snide carp hating comments, that it is mostly down to simple jealousy. The carp haters simply can't compete with the carp lovers. I have caught big fish of many species from many different venues, both still and running water, so have no need to deride any other anglers favourite fish.

I think with most people , its the fact that carp seem to have taken over the fishing spectrum . Specialists - Matches - Pleasure . Everything seems geared towards these fish. You'll find that this site has a wide range of pleasure/specialist fishermen who want to catch something OTHER than carp , so when their favourite silverfish or non-carp venue gets turned into just another carp pool , it grates.

Thats why i think the carp get a rough ride on here

Spot on mate. Anyone for a spot of bow fishing ;)

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.
Vaut mieux ne rien dire et passer pour un con que de parler et prouver que t'en est un!
