Best lever drag

I found this test of Kenzaki boat rods. The guy was fishing in 300' of water and using MX Avets on the two smaller rods. They sound impressive! {Especially as he didn't even comment on the reels' ability)

I have a matching pair of braid rods, split at the butt, 12-20 & 20-30 i think they are me best buys yet and abosolutly impressed with the very light weight and the power. I think the rods are more important than the reels. So the difference in owning one of these avets to go with them, opposed to the small 5-1 reel i use is proberbly over 100 quid, that makes me just as happy. Not a Norm tart, you see. :)

Sean, just 'cause you caught 5 bass a couple of weeks ago............................quote: as i'm getting into bigger

and bigger fish, they are a bit under gunned line capacity and drag wise.

You looking to fish the western appoaches next then. :D

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Oh my :o

Think i just got a little excited :P

SX 5.3 MC in Black

Pssst! don't tell the wife, but, after a long chat with the UK importers I bought the MXL this morning......guaranteed next day delivery, it feels like Christmas eve :yeah:

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Christmas!

smaller than my trusty Mitchell 600, 2oz lighter as well with line on

Avet1.jpg

Very smooth, fits the hand beautifully. The drag as set was spot on with my 'wheelbarrow in the garden' test.

Unfortunately the shark trip was called off because of the weather (I think the skipper made a bad call there but, never mind) so I've got a wrecking trip booked for next friday as consolation!

Was on Shimano's web site before posting, they only start with a 15.

In 2005 Norrie said the TLD 5's were like rocking horse poop...

Would a 10 be 6500 size / weight ?

Have been using Abu 5500's the last couple of trip's and as i'm getting into bigger

and bigger fish, they are a bit under gunned line capacity and drag wise.

Norm, would like an Avet (just for the tart status) but which one ? for Bass, Pollock, Cod, drifting wrecks in the channel ?

Cheers guys.

Sean

The TLD 5 and 10's were replaced by the 1000 and 2000 charter specials. They are basically the same reels with a level wind

Cheers N4lly, I'm just hoping the weather's ok, it's been a pig of a year off the Welsh coast this year. If we go I'll post a report on the MXL!

i did this review and the reason the reels weren't mentioned is that the review was about the rods, the reels were incidental to the piece.

but, i do like my little avets very much, mine are older models with the irritating "tick tick" when you wind in and the cold hard plastic handle.

my mate bought the same two reel (MXL & MXJ) this year from ROK-MAX and they are a better reel, smoother lines, no annoying "tick tick" and a nice warm rubberised handle.

great wee reels for the money B)

i was thinking about buying another but i'm going to wait on the new Daiwa saltist lever drag reels coming out later this year...

they look very smart, especially the 2 speed in the blue and black...

Unbearable, isn't it? The suffering of strangers, the agony of friends. There is a secret song at the center of the world, and its sound is like razors through flesh.
