What was it?

The nearest i could find to the description was an anchovy, but i am feeling hungry.

Yeh, good call, and one I considered too. However, the anchovy is an early summer fish that only briefly migrates inshore to spawn (spawns in the Zuider Zee May/June) and should be long gone by now. Sand smelts also migrate from deep water to spawn inshore in June, but the adults tend to hang about harbours and the like until autumn and as I said, are fairly common.

Thanks, Dave, new personal best sand smelt it is!

Glad to be of service - did you use it for pike bait?
