I'm pretty lazy at keeping any kind of records to be honest. As long as I have a picture to look at later, that's cool for me. I probably should get some good scales though since I've been going after different species a lot of late. To the nearest 1/4lb with a big daft pike isn't good enough anymore. I need to know the little measurements these days.

As most of my fishing is some sort of competition, I don't actually have many specimens, anyway, most are caught in competitive events:

Carp 26.08

Barbel 9.02

Bream 8.12

Chub 3.15, had about five of these

Perch 2.06

Roach 1.14

The rest have not been weighed individually

Dace about a pound

Tench about five

Grayling under two

Brownies over three

Rainbows over three

Gudgeon over two (oz, LOL)

Orfe about two

Following on from Wellyphant's record topic...

Do you know the weights of all your PBs?

I don't. I remember the weight of my top 5 or so perch. The same with tench and bream. However I can't remember what my carp PB is.

Don't get me wrong I like catching big fish, but its not the be all and end all. Does it really matter if your latest fish is the biggest ever? For me it more how and where I caught a fish and what it looked like. The memorable ones stick, the flukes and boring captures don't!

For example there are plenty of waters closeby with a very good chance of smashing my PB tench. However they are horrible places to be and I can't bring myself to fish them!

So do you know all your PBs? How much do they matter to you?

Rich

A bit embarrasing compared to some of the lists on here but here are the only ones i can remember..

Pike 20-10

Carp(british)23-00

Carp(french)40-00

Perch 2-08

The pike, although the biggest(just)wasn't my most memorable as it wasn't the prettiest of fish and came in like a wet sack,My most memorable pike was one bang on 20lb caught on a crisp december morning about 20 years ago and fought well, was very pretty and was also my first 20lber after about 3 years of piking in the lake district.I probably won't better that as i don't fish for pike much these days.Don't laugh at the hairstyle,,,,no,do

ist20-1.jpg

My pb british carp was shaped like a football and the french one was a right ugly bugger, not nearly as memorable as my first carp which i caught when i was about 13 years old..It was a stunning common of about 1lb,,my dad still has a picture of me holding it,i must have been happy as i was actually smiling when he took the photo..

The perch was very memorable,it was the biggest fish caught on a 'red letter day'.It was caught, along with another 35 perch, which were all over a pound. What made it memorable was the fact that i went to a small lake just to drown a few maggots,3 hours before i picked my daughter up from school.I wasn't intending on catching so many perch,or any other species for that matter,it just happened.

As for other species,i've caught good sized bream, tench, rudd, crucians and roach but never weighed them as i caught them on 2 1/2 lb-3lb test curve rods while fishing for carp.I've caught decent chub while fishing for barbel but never weighed them as i wasn't fishing for them and as for the barbel,my biggest barbel was caught on a night my scales decided to break so will never know its weight..

My last post has gone missing (presumably due to the recent crash or whatever it was of the site) but suffice to say All my PBs are MASSIVE and I deserved every last one of them

Like some of you not really into keeping weights but...

Barbel 12.2 Warwickshire Avon

Chub 7.2Teme

Roach 2.75 Bristol Avon

Never weighed any other species, had huge Grouper in the Persian Gulf many years ago, together with Tiger Ray and Shark.

Edit

Tench 9lb something South Cerney together with a 8lb plus fish June 16th when there was a closed season and opening day and a 9lb Tench was a good fish.

  • 1 year later...

After reading some interesting rating of Roach, I thought I would look up PB style threads and found this one. I was curious as to what sort of PB for Roach members might have. I was not to surprised to find that most of the best that posted on this thread at least where in the low 2lb area (Cracking fish) then I started to wonder if they have been improved on since. so I looked at my own list for this and was more then pleased when I clocked the date November 2009 and realised I have improved on a number of them but not the Roach.

So any one else improved on them since original posting on this thread or comments on Rich's opening post.

My new amended PB's are these and it's putting a huge smile on my face posting them.

Perch 4lb

Common Carp 20lb

Mirror Carp 23lb

Tench 9-11

Zander 9-10

Bream 14-03

Pike 18-03

Eel 4-13

Crucian 2-11

Chub 5lb

Really need to do some Carp fishing and move those numbers.

But as I have amended this post from 2009 and seeing the Carp weights and wanting to improve on them then I guess the answer to Richards post is that it does matter to me.

Perch 3.06 lb

Roach 2.04 lb

Rudd 2.07 lb

Common Carp 18 lb

Mirror Carp 16.06 lb

Zander 7.00lb
