Hi John, it would be useful to know what sort of baits you are interested in and what species you are after.

 

As you have mentioned injecting, I will assume you are refering to predator dead baits. I have tried injecting fish baits with various oils and dips over the years and am still unsure if they make any difference. I have caught fish with these "boosted baits" but have also caught them on plain baits and have never really found a pattern that suggests that one is better then the other.

 

I continue to play around with new additives to see if they make a difference, but this may only be because I like experimenting and it keeps me busy on the bank on a cold winter day. Out of the baits I have tried to boost, Mackeral oil injected into Mackeral and Lamprey oil into Lamprey may have made a small difference but I am still not 100% convinced it is worth the effort as I have caught on these baits straight from the freezer.

 

However if you interested in additives for boilies, pellets etc. I think that it is well worth boosting your baits. I soak all my boilies in one glug or another and think it does give you an edge in this form of fishing.

Hello i asume you are talking about deadbaits for predators? If so i would say yes. Adding extra oil and flavours can give you a bit of an edge on ocasions.

Cant argue with that but what I will say is that its far better to put your effort into other aspects of your angling than just thinking additives are the quick fire route to sucsess.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

I have recently been trying out dynamite baits Pike Strike scent trail liquid. I have painted it on to dead baits and caught a few Zander, but no Pike.

 

I gave it a go at the weekend for Perch and dipped my worms in it before casting out, which led to some savage bits.

I've never bothered with injecting additives into deadbaits, always felt it's far more important to present a fresh bait straight from the river / fishmonger rather than a frozen one from the angling shop.

 

I have on occassion injected air into lobs with a hypodermic needle to make them stand proud of the bottom ... very effective if ledgering for perch and chub, especially in weedy, summer conditions.

 

I always try to add an additive to boilies though. No particular favourites, just something such as tumeric or mollasses to give it a bit of extra appeal.

never try and teach a pig to sing .... it wastes your time and it annoys the pig

They definitely didn't put the pike off, but in my experience equally didn't result in extra fish. The only difference they made was they covered my hands and clothes in horrible fish oil which was very hard to wash off <_<

 

Fresh bait, being mobile and choosing the right conditions to fish in = pike :)

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

I agree, I'm yet to be convinced that it makes alot of difference and the added mess factor is a real pain.
