i read somewhere online that perch are attracted to spicy meats, i was eating a peperami earlier and it got me thinking, would perch go for this or even the firestick one (has powdered chili on) what would the best way to fish this? would hair rigging it work for perch?

Hi Matt

 

I do a fair amount of fishing for Perch and do like to experiment alot with my fishing, but when it comes to Perch I am a bit of a traditionalist and tend to use worms and red maggots. So have no experience of using meat to target them, however I have fished for Carp and Bream with meat before on venues that I know have Perch and have never caught a single Perch on meat.

 

I did see a picture this week in Anglers Mail that had some one with a big Perch caught on cat meat, so I will not say it will not work but it may not be the best bait. However I like to try out new baits, so good luck to you if you give it a go.

 

We have plenty of Perch fishers on AN, so maybe some others may be able to comment on whether meat may work, but I have my doubts.

I've never heard that before - do you have a link to where you saw it?

 

Catching big perch can be hard enough, I think by using peperami as bait you might just be making it almost impossible! But nothing is certain in fishing, and I would be very interested in how you get on :)

If the peperami still has bits of tinfoil attached and you draw it through the water quickly, you could be onto a winner. If that fails, eat the peperami and persevere with the tinfoil ;)

Never caught a perch of any size on meat - and used it a lot on waters with good heads of perch - when fishing for tench. One tench bait that did give me a few perch surprises however - including fish upto 2lb, was cockles. ;)

Any one caught any Perch on meat at a commercial Carp style fishery. Just wondering if they would take it with the amount of meat that gets put in for the carp.

Maybe spicy anchovies would work - the ones in oil? Might be difficult to keep on the hook though. It might also be difficult to

avoid eating them - it would be near impossible for me.

 

Interested in the cockle thing though. I've been thinking about cockles for barbel - anyone had barbel on them?
