Why on earth have they chosen to use one of these 'free forum' providers, rather than install the software (which is free anyway!) themselves? They now have to pay to remove adverts, etc (see here). This isn't meant as criticism, but surely somebody there can set up a basic software package?

It's encouraging to see more and more people waking up the the realities of it all, though. I knew that, given enough time, the cracks would become exposed. One day, even you will be telling it how it is. Just don't waste too much time, though, eh.

You obviously didn't see the comment in the recent newsletter regarding forums, then, and how their own new one will be better than the rest of us

 

 

Elton one thing all of the recent (past few decades) angling bodies have had in common is that none of them have wanted to include anyone who may actually know/have any experience of what ever it is they are wanting to do!

 

For example PAA didn't want to have anyone who had actually been instructing/guiding fishing for any length of time only people who had attended "their" courses and passed "their" tests. All of the representative bodies be they course or sea (cant really speak for the game world although my little involvement with APGAI suggests the trout and salmon boys are a bit more sorted) run as soon as anyone with any history tries to help/join/constructively criticise.

 

Why is this? Well I'm afraid that the only conclusion that Ive been able to draw over the years is that they simply don't want people who have any experience or knowledge as they are a threat! And the threat is to the fact that they (the body) want to run the show and run it their way for their needs.Sounds a bit blunt but its what I honestly believe. The fact that they are all self appointed bodies also shows this.

 

It also seems to be a general trait of modern day society that we have the "tail wagging the dog" scenario.The people put others into positions of "power" to do a job for them but the power people soon turn it and tell the people who put them there what to do! Doesn't matter if its the Government,local council or the committee of your local fishing club!

Makes you laugh Elton doesnt it. Its not quite as easy as saying heres our new forum isnt it great !!! They take years of bloody hard graft to make them work.

The hallmark of a good forum is when you can call the owner a complete **** without being banned.

 

Never really rated AnglersNet or the Whitby site, myself.
