Royalty going syndicate?

Saw this posted by 'jimbo' on the FM forum just now:

"Various sources have informed me of this, seems that two tackle shops are backing the syndicate but thats not confirmed. What has been confirmed is that Christchurch have lost the rights.

Its 50/50 as to whether there will be day tickets but I feel its unlikley."

Anyone know more?

Whilst I haven't fished the Royalty for 20-odd years, I am concerned - bit of a national treasure going private and all that...

"What did you expect to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically...?"

More from jimbo on FM:

"Hi nobody seems to be 100%, I think the main interest (of the syndicate/consortium)seems to be in the Game fish rather than Barbel. If there are day tickets they could be very limited.

Info seems very patchy for such a major event, CAC website carries some info but some of that conflicts with what we have been told on the bank."

Game fish, huh?

Like the increasingly fashionable and expensive sea-trout, not to mention traditionally megabucks salmon...

Now I know more than just a bit about these, and what has happened in recent years on the lower Test, and Itchen (to a lesser degree)...

I strongly suggest that you check this out:

Note the daily rod rate!

I believe that we may have found our would-be syndicators...

Just see what happened when I posted the following on a Gamefishing forum a few minutes ago:

"I posted this on another forum just now.

http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/ubb/ultimatebb...6990;p=1#000002

I rather suspect that a historic, open to all anglers, great MIXED (coarse and game) Hampshire Avon fishery is about to be / being given the big-bucks privatisation treatment.

What's the word...?

Oh yes - stinks."

Here is the link to the thread:

The man who immediately replied to my posting fishes closely preserved trout-waters on some large, landed estate in Derbyshire. Clearly doesn't like numbers of the 'likes of us', you see... There are still a lot about today just like him.

Peter Waller:

A sad, sad day for angling. Selfishness without excuse.

Indeed it is, Peter. Well said.

I have just repeated your words in that gamefishing forum thread I linked above - here it is again:

Evidently your correspondent on the gamefishing forum thinks this is about the welfare of the fish.

Is he disingenuous or self-deluding?

That attitude leads me to imagine spending a lottery win on some exclusive salmon fishing rights, and then gifting them in perpetuity to the public. demon

I've never fished there but am aware of its history.

What a shame if our worse fears are realised.

Would Mr Crabtree have taken Peter if it had cost him £900 a go?!

Damn shame though. It's not as if there is a shortage of expensive and exclusive Game fishing in that part of the world either, is it?

The best time to fish is when you have a chance.

Is everyone sure its a Game fishing syndicate ?

Rumours last Spring were that members were being sought for a Coarse fishing syndicate, the inference being that barbel specialists were particularly welcome.
