Been reading the reviews for the Blu-Ray release of the LOTR films on Amazon and having a good chuckle.

They have a point though. Nobody wants the theatrical versions and most buyers will aldready have all the extras that came with the DVD special editions - these films should have been released as a boxed set of extended editions without any extras on seperate discs and at half the current asking price.

They may be LOTR fans, but they don't know their Tolkein. Lord of the Rings is not a Trilogy it's three books in one, there is a subtle difference. Edited by corydoras

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

is it a quadrogly wheres the hobbit? the books looked at in scenes from the films but it itself is worthy of a film to clear up star wars wise bits and bobs not eluded to .no mention of bilbo's sexual appetites nor his frequent visits to the haunts of man to sample loose (probably due to his diminutive size) very loose women and strong lager.nor his extended prison term for faking gold rings with glowing writing sold to gandalf when he was in the land of the fairies or rather out of his skull on pipe smoked coke.nor any mention of bilbo's picture on crimewatch for the actual heist when he stole the ring from golum in the first place .

wheres the hobbit?

It was all ready to go with the director and cast all lined up and the studio's in New Zealand were all set up to start filming the two films that would make up the story and them MGM hit the skids.

It's unlikely to get a final green light until a buyer is found for MGM and the suits release the cash.

Ah but it was originally published as three seperate books (1954), should the hobbit be included as the prequel? hmm if so are you going to include the Silmarillion as well (Tolkien apparently was originally going to release the Silmarillion and The lord of the rings as a 2 volume set,in the end however the Silmarillion wasn't finally published until 1977)which is prequel to both LOTR and the hobbit ? and more over who really cares only geeks like those shown in

triumph vs the strar wars geeks

Then of course there's the unfinnished tales which are a bit disjointed but adds layers of history and mythology to Tolkien's world even if they don't really have a single story arch.

Then of course there was the pile of bits that was pulled together by the great mans money grabbing grandson a couple of years ago.

There's probably another half a dozen films that could be weedled out of the franchise but personally, I think they should stop after The Hobbit.

A couple of book serise that I'd love to see given the hollywood treatment though are the Raymond Fiest Magician books and David Eddings's Begariad.
