How will you cope once the river close season kicks in?

Possibly, although I think I provide them with a reasonable approximation of a small Amazonian stream biotope.

Yes but it's still a very poor second to their natural home, they can't exactly swim for miles, hundreds of yards or even more than several feet. The reason you keep them is because you want them, so if people want barbel in still waters .......leave them to it. Well that's my opinion any how. At the end of the day fisheries are going to try and keep the fish in good health (just as you do) otherwise they've just thrown away their money.

Don't you think that it is all a matter of attitude and approach.

The "specialist" angler

Decides that he is going to target Crucian Carp.

Does 3 months research into waters containing crucians and discovers a local pond contains them so chooses this as his venue.

Tackles up with a 16 hook to fine line and chooses and insert peacock quill waggler dotted right down to a dimple.

Carefully baits up an area next to some lilies.

By careful and concentrated fishing he manages to catch a crucian that weighs 0.4986Kg.

The fish is weighed measured and photographed to within an inch of its life.

The angler ignores and discards the 27 other fish, roach, rudd, bream and perch that he caught, seeing them as "nuisance" fish

He goes home exultant having achieved what he set out to do.

Decides to rest that swim for two years whilst he works on a new and exciting way of tying his hook on.

The "Pleasure" angler

Goes fishing at his local pond

Tackles up with a 16 hook to fine line and chooses and insert peacock quill waggler dotted right down to a dimple.

Carefully baits up an area next to some lilies.

Catches 28 fish covering a variety of species

Goes home thinking "that was a good day, nice to see all of those species, That crucian was nice, must have been nearly a pound.

Think I'll go back next week ;)

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Well I know which one I fit into to, and it isn't the top one ;)
