I Had to laugh at this!

How dare they! How dare they decide to ban fishing on a relatively small reservoir, without consulting the AT! Now they might understand how sea anglers feel!

"The local angling club and the Angling Trust were only made aware of this decision after it had been taken; we believe that this is an announcement rather than a consultation." - Hello, that sounds familiar, but it's a bit more painful now the boot's on the other foot isn't it?

“Given the region’s strategic importance for providing angling facilities for the whole of England, this is a grim prospect for angling as a whole. We will continue our campaign to get the company to consult properly in future with angling clubs and the Angling Trust and to take a more pragmatic approach to risk management at its sites.”

- Where the hell do they get off? As if Draycote provides fishing for 'the whole of England'. There are loads of very good trout fishing reservoirs all around the UK.

I'm posting this because I'm sick of getting e-mails from the AT blurting on about 'how great fish 'o' bloody mania is, and 'oh dear, one venue has been closed to trout anglers and there's absolutely nothing we can do (or could have done) about it', when there's a whole load of issues about to affect sea anglers that are literally being swept under the carpet.

The fact of the matter, on the Draycote issue, is that Severn Trent PLC have every right to close the reservoir if they do so wish - they own it! It's their business that they'll be turning away in the form of day tickets from paying anglers. It's just the same as some syndicate carp lake owner deciding that he wants the lake for himself and his mates and closing it to Joe Public.

What we're being faced with, as sea anglers, is the very real threat of various organisations (that don't own our seas) closing areas off to sea anglers - you and me.

Oh, the irony!

The Angling Trust considers that this refusal to consult with the local organisations such as Draycote Flyfishers or the national governing body of the sport is a contravention of the Company’s legal obligations and its community policy as displayed on its website.

Talking of legal obligations, shouldn't the Angling Trust, who 'assisted throughout the process' of getting anglers banned from taking eels, have consulted their membership on the matter?

just as ironic their members are moaning about this and that that they consider failings by the A T. Decimation of their beloved named carp by the furry fiends was just one example. Now we have the live bait ban by one of the clubs again where the members feel that the A T is lacking. Yup welcome to the real world, all those 20 quids that they are going to regret spending.

I understand that the BAA have banned livebaiting from a fish welfare perspective. This is the issue that the AT should be discussing with the BAA. A ban will give the “Antis” a perfect opportunity to argue that anglers' concede that sticking hooks in fish causes suffering and is wrong. The issue for the AT is not that predator anglers will be disadvantaged by a livebait ban. It really is not good enough for AT to sit on the sidelines and observe. The fact that the BAA are AT members should mean that it is a simple matter for an AT representative to sit down with the committee and explore the ramifications of a ban on fish welfare grounds, and seek to acheive a reversal of the rule. The AT has missed an opportunity to demonstrate that it truly represents the best interests of the sport.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

Funny how peoples' attitudes completely change when the madness spreads to things that affect them.

Doesn't seem 5 minutes ago that we were being told that banning a very few anglers from taking a very few eels, while the real threats to eels were allowed to continue, was the 'right thing to do' - with no justification whatsoever.
