Tyre Recommendations

Recommended Posts

I'm beginning to regret putting my Evo back on the road!

Despite recently passing the MOT, I am a bit shocked by the state of the tyres and do not feel comfortable with them. They appear to be cracking.

I don't do many miles in the car and don't want to/can't spend a fortune on tyres, but do need to know that what I put on them are fit for purpose. It's a powerful car and, whilst my days of thinking I'm Tommi Makinen are behind me, there are times when I feel the urge to put my foot down.

Most of my driving is done in the dry with that car, but that doesn't mean I ant to go sailing if it's raining :)

I've been looking at some of the 215 40 17's here - http://www.allnewtyres.co.uk/productsearch...=17&rating= - but, like most things on the internet, once you start reading reviews, you start to worry!

Can anyone here recommend a decent mid-price tyre? And a place to buy them? I can get them fitted okay, so need supply only.

I have used these in the past and the service was excellent.

As a budget tyre the Falken is excellent. I have 4 on my car.

Or try these for more choice

tyres are best before 5 years old ,its the uv that buggers them but if they pass the MOT then their fine.

my tyres one side tend to age fastest so i treat them with a bumper shine containing conuba wax it seems to "heal" small cracks

for 17" tyres they are pretty cheap mine are small but with a big profile (luckily! were fast breeding potholes around here) 185/80r/14 91T.

trouble is online tyres look cheap but you have to add in having them fitted not everyone can do it themselves ;)

Elton we have 17"40 series rubber on our Mondeo and the potholes round here eat tyres with small wall height like that so we put on the cheapest poss as they seldom last very long before a pothole has put a bulge in them ,khumo/Nexen and Clear are all decent budget end rubber for the money .

Had the same prob with the Scooby 40 series rubber hard suppension and potholes dont mix so cheap as you like with the state of the roads works for me ,mate has an M3 and wont put anything on unless its going on towards £150 a corner ,He is rich and stupid though :D .

We are not putting it back it is a lump now put that curry down and go and get the scales

have I told you abouit the cruise control on my Volvo ,,,,,,,bla bla bla Barder rod has it come yet?? and don`t even start me on Chris Lythe :bleh::icecream:

What ever ones you decide on, do pay attention to the age. Over 10 years and you should avoid them completely. 5 years and under is good.

I'm not sure about tyres over your way but here the mfg. date is included in the info stamped into the tire body - it's just not an obvious date.

I'm not sure if they do that over here, Newt. Maybe somebody could enlighten me?
