Why not a small tent

If the rules allow it, use a tent and don't worry about it.

I was just trying to put across the cantankerous jobs worth point of view :D

The world would certainly be a duller and less colourful place if I was left in charge, just as well I'm not.

But come the revolution and I am swept to power, I would introduce radical reforms. Real Tree school uniforms for kids, Free fishing licences. All cars to be sprayed green, so they look better when parked in the fishery car park.

Oh no, maybe I should go and lie down for a while

Stephen

I have done a fair bit of "session" pike fishing using a small igloo style tent. In my opinion, my tent is not too good for actual fishing from, although perfect for having a few hours kip. I never "sleep fish" anyway so that suits me fine. The problem most tents have is that they are not designed for quick exits! If the door is a single zip you inevitably get wet every time you go through it at night and you can never get it set so you can see your tackle properly. If it has a proper door those issues might not be a problem, but I've yet to see a tent designed to have the door open when it's raining.

Mine is green (mainly because I didn't want the Lake District busybodies to notice it!) and I can put it up without its inner tent in not much longer than it takes to erect a bivvy. Although it is slightly larger than most of this type of small tent I can't get a bedchair in the sleeping compartment, although it fits OK with just the outer shell up.

To sum up, I think bivvies are undoubtedly better (and I say that as a tent user!) but I think they are overpriced compared to equivalent quality tents. I suppose it's down to economy of scale - tents being much more of a mass market product.

A bivouac (pronounced /ˈbɪvuːæk/, BIV-oo-ak) traditionally refers to a military encampment made with tents or improvised shelters, usually without shelter or protection from enemy fire or such a site where a camp may be built.[1] It is also commonly used to describe a variety of improvised camp sites such as those used in scouting and mountain climbing. It may often refer to sleeping in the open with a bivouac sack, but it may also refer to a shelter constructed of natural materials like a structure of branches to form frame may be utilized, which is then covered with leaves, ferns and similar for waterproofing and duff (also known as leaflitter) for insulation.

As a verb, to bivouac (alternatively bivouacked, bivouacking, bivouacs also bivouacks) is to set up or camp in any such improvised camp.[2]

Therefore all of these so called Bivvies sold for fishing are infact tents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

our club stipulates green or brown for colour so theoretically i could use our green trailer tent ,what a swim that would need .

brought the subject up before a basic bivvy is no more than a basic tent a good bivvy the same as great tent ,the difference then becomes more design than material
