Kingfisher lakes, Norfolk

Hi,

My girlfriend has kindly booked us into the Kingfisher lakes complex for my Birthday weekend. It holds some very large fish but after the Wingham fish-in my mind is firmly set on upping my new Tench pb. The main lake on the complex has tench to double figures so I'm going to concentrate on these. Has anybody fished these lakes and if so any pointers??

Thanks

Hi Anthony

I had a long weekend over Easter at Kingfisher with my girlfriend, the apartments are excellent and you will not be disappointed with them. I don't know if you realise that fishing is not included in the cost of your stay and you need to buy day tickets from the bar in the club house. All ways a good excuse to stop for a pint or two :D

We fished for two and a half days out of our stay. We done a few hours on the Lobster Pot which is the novice pond and caught nothing, but I did get bitten off a few times so I guess it has a few small Pike in it.

We thought about giving the main lake a try, it looks a great lake but tickets for this are issued as 24 hours only and are £20 each. This seemed alot considering we would only fish during the day and we did not pay all that money for good accomadation to camp out, but we did decide if we go back to get a 24 hour ticket the day we check out and bivy up for the Carp/Bream/Tench.

We did not bother fishing Willow lake which is the main Tench lake on the complex as we went so early in the year, I was not sure if the Tench would be active and from talking to a few anglers that did give it ago they were not.

So we decided to fish Lily Lake which has a good mix of species and we caught plenty of fish on popped up mini boilie/pellet combos and maggot and worm on the feeder. Nothing huge, but good fun for the time of year Carp to 8lb, Bream to 6lb plus plenty of Roach, Rudd, Perch and Jacks. One of the bailifs told us that the Bream in here go to double figures.

Sorry I can't be much help with the Tench, but if they are your target you can dismiss Lily and Lobster and try Willow or the main lake. The thing is do you want to be paying £20 for a day ticket on the main lake, ok if you plan to fish over night but alot for a day session. They run a Carp syndicate on the main and they don't mind giving out information to guests fishing for the other species and they did confirm it holds double figure Tench and high double Bream, but they mainly come out at night to those fishing Carp tactics. All the other lakes on the complex are £5 a day but no night fishing on them.

Stephen

Hi Dales,

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I knew about the extra charge for the fishing. You'll be surprised to here then that it has now gone up to £25 for 25 hours fishing! As It's a fishing holiday I will probably fish during the night for the bream and tench and then go out and do the usual tourist thing during the day to keep the girlfriend from getting to bored. I'll probably be shattered by the end of the weekend but It's probably the best chance I will have of catching one of the specimens.

That's a great idea to pay for the 25 hours fishing on the day you leave and then bivvying up over night. Did you check that this was ok when you were there? I have to go back to work on the Tuesday after we're due to leave but this place sounds great so if we like it I think we will deffinately go back.

I do have a couple of questions that you may be able to help me with:

How far is the main lake from the apartment building and can you take you car near to the pegs? I do not have a barrow yet and will need to invest in one if it's a long treck. ( wonder if Glyn or Terry are available that weekend ;) )

Do you know if there are alot of nuisance fish in the main lake as I would like to base my approach around maggots?

Also can you fish 3 rods on the main lake and willow lake.

Thanks again for the reply

I'm not sure about the small species in the main lake as I never gave it ago. We did not ask about buying a main lake ticket on the last day, but we bought a day ticket on our last day and fished Willow and so we assumed we might be able to get away with it on a return trip as tickets are only sold to guests at the apartments. The bailiff knew we had already booked out and did question we stayed on to fish, all the other guests leaving at the same time left in the morning.

I did ask about using 3 rods on Willow and one of the bar men said it was ok, but we did not as we only bought 4 rods with us, my 2 carp travel rods and 2 feeder rods that break down in to 3 pieces each.

All the lakes are not to far from the apartments and as long as you don't have to much gear you should be able to get it to your swim with out to much trouble. You can reach a bank on every lake easily from the apartments, but if you fancy a long stroll it will take a while to get around the back of the main lake and that would require a barrow. You can drive a little closer to the lakes if you want which will get you very close to Lily Lake, but Willow and the main lake are on the other side of a little stream and so you have to use one of the small bridges that cross it.

The apartments all over look the lakes and we had a great time sitting out on the balcony each morning and evening watching all the wild life. Keep an eye out for the large owls that seem active in the morning and can be seen sitting on a number of dead tree stumps.

Sorry I can't provide to much detailed information on the fishing, but we did not take the fishing to seriously and were just after a few bites, but it did fire my imagination for a return trip later in the year to have a crack of those big specimens.

Stephen

Hi Dales,

Thank you once again. That's great news about the 3 rods as it makes experimenting with different baits/methods much quicker and easier.

Seeing as it's my birthday soon and I'm not getting any younger I may have to add a new barrow to the wishlist :D

Getting very excited now.

Just thought I'd mention that I emailed John Bailey with some questions about the fishery and he got back to me within a couple of days with some great tips and he also said that he may be able to meet me when I'm there to give me a few more pointers on areas etc. So for anyone who may be thinking of taking a trip out to kingfisher then you can email John directly and he should be able to help you out.

I'll post a review of the lakes and accomodation when I return.

Regards

  • 1 year later...

Im going here for a week in september and would appreciate any info on the river stretch of the wensum at Kingfisher lakes.

Ive seen good and bad reports on the place especially about drunk bar manager and staff arguing.

No phone signal and no staff half the time.

Anyway ill pay my money and take my chances.

Any other info on the place would be good.
