it pays to check alignment and firm fit every couple of hours. Joints can work loose on any rod. Neglect this, and keep casting, and WHOOSH ! there's part of the rod in the water.[/QB]
That's another thing learned.

Cheers.

I have been doing a bit of internet window shopping and have found http://www.bobcotackle.co.uk to be the cheapest so far amongst the few U.K. sites I have looked at. However, I came across a Thai website - http://www.thaifishingguide.com and was taken aback by their prices.

For example, a Shimano Baitrunner 6500 is 25 quid cheaper than the one sold at Bobcotackle. Similarly, an Exage TEXS240M is 10 quid cheaper.

I was told that a lot of Shimano tackle is made in other far East countries, other than Japan and that it should be avoided. Any truth in this claim?

Incidentally, what is the cheapest U.K. based web retailer with good customer service credentials?

Just a caveat.

I am talking about multipiece rods in the context of travelling and fishing abroad Airlines hassle you if there is oversize luggage (rod tubes look like bazookas), whereas Exage rods go in hold luggage with no trouble.

When fishing in the UK, most of my fishing is done with two-piece rods.

Not that there is anything wrong with the modern multipiece.....but fitting two joints up is quicker than assembling 5 or 6, likewise packing up, and there is only one ferrule to check for alignment/firmness etc.

Since fishing equipment needs to be imported, I would like fairly good quality stuff which would last for a while.

Strange, I import container loads of tackle for Leeda and Jrc from India.

Most rods and reels are made in the Far East.

Thanks for the link, Jeepster. I wouldn't turn my nose up at a bargain but have learned to value customer service more.

Hello RUDD.

Whilst I did not know about this, I am not not surprised to learn about it either.

Would it be possible for you to give me some details?

Are Leeda and JRC good quality brands? It's the first time I'm seeing these names.
