If all the Carp went away what would replace them?

I expect if some of those "old noddies" were to read the stuff on here then they would say the same as me i.e. what will end angling is the growth of high priced syndicates...not so much the price, but the exclusion of so many by so few.

Come on Den, stop being silly! How many high priced syndicates are there compared to open-access club waters or day ticket waters?

Although I do agree that losing access to a cherished water because it has suddenly become syndicated is very sad. It has happened to me in the past (a deep, gorgeous old Norfolk gravel pit holding big tench, carp, bream, pike, perch, rudd, roach that was on the KLAA ticket until a few people realised its true 'value'. As a youngster I really didn't even scratch the surface of it, but I loved being there. How I'd love to fish it again now!).

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Andrew, I know a few who have "moved on" this season because they couldn't afford MKF prices (less than £1 per day if you wanted to). For them there has been the godsend of a shortage of anglers meaning that they can now join their local clubs. but "my mate" who is a member of a couple of them is moaning about the open door policy...."they just let any old Tom Dick and Harry" join.

I hold my hand up and admit that I joined that syndicate... andI fished what is now day ticket barbel fishing on the Wye when it was Salmon anglers only, I used a friends address to gain membership of a club "outside" my postal area, and maybe did a few other things I can't remember now :)

Anyway, I am off down the lake for an evenings fishing..I will find a swim, not to fussy which one, and make the most of it while I can.

John you are right in there is no benefit to the fish or ecology, but the commercials do offer benefits to the "fishcatcher"

In all my years of fishing, commercials are the only waters I have seen girls fishing with there dads or older brothers etc and it's because they do other a more pleasurable experience to those not obsessed with fishing and willing to ruff it a bit.

It just shows how we all experience different things in our angling life time. In my youth I met several girls through fishing, either participating or just along for the day. In one instance nearly a whole season was spent meeting one particular girl who lived in a village where I used to fish. We only met on a weekend when I travelled the 15 or so miles on the bus. We spent the day fishing and getting to know each other, (and she could out fish me by a country mile, the rest I'll keep to myself  ). I don't know why we stopped seeing each other, just drifted apart I guess. Later, the club I fished with had several lady members, and youngsters, who fished the matches along with the rest of us. it was like a big extended family at times. I used to peg out the match length, and note safer pegs for the kids, and the club sec' used to take them out, and the kids would pick from them. Whoever was pegged nearest, kept an eye out for them. I was brought up in an angling club environment, and the ladies and kids were as much a part of everything as the men, whether they fished or not.

The point I'm making is that all the talk of ladies and kids fishing is nothing new, and if they want places that are safe, with all mod cons included, it all can be achieved without an over stocked water. So I'm afraid that it doesn't count as a positive reason in my book.

John.

PS, Writing all that has brought back a lot of good memories, and almost a lump to my throat. Cheers for reminding me. :D

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Oh well, thanks for an interesting and fair discussion Stephen, though I think you conceding might be more due to boredom as much as anything else :D , (I've been told I can have that effect with things I'm passionate about) :rtfm:;)

I could tell you about the fishing Dave, but that's all  , other than that, all I can say is that I learned a lot that summer, that's stood me in good stead over the years. ;)

Max Clifford? Nah, he's too commercial for my liking. B)
