Thanks for a great weekend the Tench did not materialise for us but I had a great time getting my head around the Perch.

After a certain age, if you don't wake up aching in every joint, you are probably dead.

What a great 24 hours we have had. We fished a newly cut swim that had been fished only a few times before. The venue was superb, this being our first time, never mind the fishing the wildlife ws out of this world. The venue is a nature reserve, alive with insects and moths I have never seen before other than on the discovery channel! Good views of of a wide variety of birds also.

We fished from 4pm Saturday to 5pm Sunday and caught 5 nice perch. Screaming reels regularly but never managed to hook the bleeding things I think were tench that were not on the feed and just playing with the lobworm! Anyway all good fun.

Good to put names to faces, I have not posted much since signing up but do read regularly your news and queries. Met some nice people and it was good to see another woman fishing ( Lyn) sorry you had the same trouble as me with not hooking the tench, but dont give up hope, I won't.

Special thanks to Steve and his wife Peggy for the most welcoming hospitality I have ever experienced on a private fishing complex. Thanks to Steve for his informative tips and fantastic enthusiasm for the sport - you are an inspiration to all anglers. I do hope we meet again.

And to Tony I do not thank you for marching me across the Ford without wellies when there was a perfectly good walking bridge only a few yards away, my shoes are still soaking wet but fortunately I had spare socks. He's in the dog house tonight!

Pics of the lakes coming soon.

Thanks very much Steve, please pass on my thanks to the bailiffs and Peggy.

I spent a lot of Saturday talking to Budgie and Andrew but did a few hours fishing until it was almost dark. Had a few bites, all from the mozzies (loads of them, I could here them buzzing all around me) apart from a touch on the feeder and a couple of movements on the float, not sure if I did anything wrong or the fish just didn't want to know.

Great fishery, the amount of wildlife was simply astounding, creepy crawlies everywhere, I could hear cuckoos, owls, even a peacock somewhere!

Thanks again Steve, it was also good to have met you :)

Once again, thanks to Steve, Peggy and all the bailiffs for a fantastic weekend. Wingam is a joy to fish, yes it's not an easy water by any standards, but the surroundings and wildlife are fantastic. Any fish can only be seen as an added bonus, particularly such pristine specimens as come out at Wingham.

I'd guess the carp I lost was a big common, no idea how big as I never saw it, but a screaming run, it almost felt as if I should be pouring water on the reel line was leaving so fast. Unfortunately it was heading for the biggest snag in my part of the bay and it was a case of tightening the clutch down and hoping it would turn before anything broke (10lb reel line, 8lb hooklength, 1.75lb test avon). It didn't and the rest is history :(

Still the eel on Saturday was the biggest I've had for a few years and gave a good fight on the lighter 1.25lb avon. Had a few perch to 12oz and a second, smaller, eel of about one pound 8oz as well so not a bad weekends fishing.

Great to see so many people there and put some faces to names. Also good to meet up with those I met last year again and catch up with the past year's happenings.

I won't steal anyone's thunder by reporting who caught the specimens and who landed personal bests. You'll have to wait for them to post their own stories.

However, it wasn't a good day today after a very cold night. Apparently the temperature went down to 4C (39F)! Two lads are bringing warmer sleeping bags next time!

Talking of next time, I've decided I'll keep to a 3 day format as 4 days would be too knackering. If I'm overbooked as I expect with Newt coming, I'm going to have 2 "sittings" with a changover midmorning on Sunday. However guests are welcome to stay on site the whole time and attend both BBQs.

Several of you thought that would be a good idea, and Budgie pointed out that it would leave more time for socialising. It would also give Newt and Jan more days to visit other areas and meet other members who couldn't get to Wingham.

Many thanks to Steve, Peggy and the crew of bailiffs for all the hard work they put in to organize the weekend and the great welcome and hospitality you showed us.

It was a pleasure and a privilege to fish such a stunning venue and your valuable tips helped me to catch 2 personal best Perch.

I started off well with 3 Perch during the day on the saturday at 1.08, 1.11, and a stunning PB of 2.15. So turned in that night a happy chap and with the valuable tip from the bailiffs that around 4.00 in the morning was the best time to catch a monster Perch.

So I rose early at 4.00 Sunday morning and rebaited with fresh lobs and was rewarded with a yet another new PB Perch of 3.06 which put up a great fight on my 1 1/4 test curve specimen rod. The Perch at Wingham seem to fight harder then any other Perch I have ever encountered. This top fish was soon followed by proberbly the smallest Tench in the lake at 2 lb.

Sunday was a lot quieter for me with 1 small Perch and a great run on one of my rods that I was convinced was a giant Tench. I struck the run but unfortunately it turned out to be a Pike that had taken a liking to my Lobs. Not the big Tench I had thought it was but at 11 lb still welcome.

Thanks again for a very memorable and enjoyable weekend.

Stephen
