Chain saw

Depends on a lot of factors, what brand is the saw, what wood, how many logs you chop in an hour etc etc. Have you noticed a drop off in performance?

Hi jeepster

I have a Husquarna 435 and i am cutting mainly Oak.

Probably cutting about 35-55 logs an hour and have found i have to use more effort on the bigger logs than i use too.

That said i have only done 2 hours work max.

If seasoned oak then a wipe with the proper file on a guide does no harm every fuel fill. If you let it get blunt then seasoned oak will trash a blade very quickly and, if you let it go to far will trash your bar/guide as well! Green oak less so unless it is very wet. Don't push the saw, let it cut itself through! Ir it starts trying to cut at an angle or starts to smoke then you know it's time to sharpen.....don't forget to dress the tooth height as well!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

generally you look at the sawdust ,once the size of the chunks gets to half of the size when its just been sharpened its time for a sharpen

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong

Yeah that's it mate. Sort of when it gets blunt. Actually if you look at the edges of the teeth it soon becomes apparent when the teeth just behind the cutting edge begin to look a bit polished. That happens because the saw is not cutting properly at the edge of the teeth. I have recently bought one of those electric sharpeners and while I have to take the chain off the saw to sharpen it, the results make it worth while.
