Hi Everyone

I am a newbie both here and to Kayak fishing, but not to fishing in general, so any hints and helpful tips would be most apreciated for fishing off the norfolk suffolk coast as would any invites to fishing trips to help me gain confidence and knowledge from some of you more advanced experienced guys, but i write this to mainly ask if anyone can helpme in how to find a wetsuit as i cant find any on the net in my size! i have a 52in chest 34 Waist and i am slightly over 6ft with wide shoulders, any help as to where i might find one to fit or how thick i should get or even how much i am looking at spending for a full suit would be much apreciated, Here's Hoping someone will be able to point me in the right direction :-)

regards

Not a Kayak fisher but have experience with wetsuits from kitesurfing. With your size, you'll be best looking for a custom suit, I don't know of any mainstream manufacturer that does an off the peg for you. Unfortunately this can be expensive but the plus side is that your wetsuit will be under no undue stress (overstretching/bagging) and should last twice as long as an off the peg with good care.

Try www.secondskinsurf.com/ for starters, just search for custom wetsuits.

Thickness all depends on how much immersion you will be submitted to, temperature/time of year and flexibilty.

For example I'd personally be looking at 5/4/3 suit with a smoothskin body of 5mm, standard 4mm on the legs and standard 3mm on the arms for flexibility for general watersports with high/medium immersion times eg kitesurfing/surfing. The smoothskin on the body will reduce windchill thru the suit by repelling external water. This suit should do you spring, summer, autumn but it all depends on your tolerance of cold. Will do winter instead of summer if you are constantly moving (boil in the bag syndrome) but I don't know how kayak fishing works lol!

Hope I made some sense. Talk to a custom wetsuit outlet and they will be far more aware of what you require.

Have fun,

Regards,

Renrag

First thing is, are you going to fish in the early Spring or Autumn and Winter?

If it's only Summer fishing, from June to October, a wetsuit will do, but otherwise you will need a surface watersports dry suit.

Crewsaver or Gul are good choices, with front zip.

Hi Mike

thanks for the reply and apologies in my late reply back but i've been offline for a few weeks, i have had a full wetsuit made which i've used and its pretty awesome, i want to fish year round but on my last outing out the wind was against the tide and it got pretty rough, so i found that for the first time in my life (and i work at sea) i was actualy getting sea sick, which put me off winter fishing a bit, but i am now saving for a nice dry suit incase i change my mind, although it will still come in handy on the norfolk broads during winter, thanks again, Mark.
