thanks for the quick reply... i had a look at it look nice but don't say much about it lol

i think i may get another top section so can have another size elastic prob about 6-8 mayb?? as that what i got on pole atm as it says can take fish up 2 5lb and my PB only 4lb so should be finee... do you no if i buy another top section they will elasticate it for me?

Couldnt tell you to be honest. Some places will elasticate it for free (after you buy the bits from them) and others wont. Depends on your tackle shop.

I have had a 13lb carp on that pole and i could tell it would handle much more. They are a very light carbon weave pole and got a lot of backbone as you would expect from a carp pole. Great pole for its price tag.

If your not to far away from Ashford I can supply spare top kits and elasticate them at a reasonable cost.

Also got several second hand poles but all are 11m+.

Mark Im having a sort out of all the poles over the next few days and will let you have a list when done. All sorts of makes-Preston,Lerc,Maver,Browning,LEEDA and Shimano. From 11m -16m,some with several top kits some with just one (but can always sort out additional tops). Prices vary dependent on length, model and condition but as a guide I can do a 12.5m Shimano Powerloop with !x Match top and 1x Power top for around £120 up to around £150 for a Browning Absolute Power 16m with the one top.

On average I can supply a cut, bushed, bunged and elasticated top kit for around £20 for a top three and £15 for a top two (second hand tops but new fittings/elastic) New ones vary a lot dependant on model.

I dont bother with many poles under 13m as its simply best to get a long pole and you can then use it at whatever length you want up to its maximum. The specialist "margin" poles are the exception but youve got to be targeting quite large carp to warrant one of these. They are also very specialist in that they are no good at all for silvers of any description.Heavy tips and big elastics just mean lost fish if you try to use them for anything else.

Been talk of some very big elastics on here! Fine if you are targeting BIG carp on commercials but not a lot of cop for anything else! I basically use 4 strengths to cover all my fishing, a size 3 for ultra light canal work, size 6 (my all rounder) which will deal with small silvers up to 3-4lb carp (8-12lb if they come along unexpectedly). A size 12 for intentional carping for fish up to 8lb on commercials and a 18 hollow Hydro Elastic for out and out carp crunching for 8-mid double figure fish.

More so dictated by the maximum hook length BS I use in each situation rather than the size of the fish.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Hi, I went through the same process as you last year. I ended up with the white knuckle. It is very good and strong pole. I changed the elastic as I was fishing mainly on canals. The lower elastic is just in the top section. The heavy elastic is in the spare top two. The only regret i have about buying it is it is only 6m. That is about half way across a narrow canal. I would now buy something longer. They have just released a longer version (8m I think) I was reviewed in IYCF last month. Also some advice I heard after I got the White knuckle. Someone said always buy the longest pole you can afford as when you fish with it at shorter lengths it is lighter. if you need to fish at 6m then a 10m pole with some sections removed will feel lighter and you also have the flexibility to add length when playing a fish. I wish i had gone for a 9.5 or 10m that would reach the far bank of the canals I fish. Just my opinion.

By the way I'm not an expert at pole fishing, just have a go cause its quick to set up and start fishing.

Regards

Rob

I also got the White Knuckle a couple of years ago and still use it as a 'holiday' pole as it packs up reasonsable small. The new 8m White Knuckle Thriller appears to be a re-branding of their 'Wizard' pole and according to the IYCF review they did some silly corner cutting with the 12 elastic section putting in a sea swivel instead of a proper bung.

I bought a Browning 9m pole and agree with Rob that buying a longer pole and fishing shorter feels lighter, the sections are also naturally longer so its easier to ship in and out and break down. Be careful because sections are lighter because they are thinner and you have exercise slightly more care or you can crack a section as I did. Check whether the top two are take apart or telescopic; I much prefer take apart, easier to handle. Also check about match top twos vs power top twos. Until recently I didn't know about the difference and its important to make sure that while your match tops are the same length the power top may be shorter. There was some advice given in a recent issue of IYCF.
