More Ammunition For The 'Ban Fishing' Brigade

Professor Callum Roberts of the University of York said over-fishing was turning the area into a dead zone.

There is, however, some hope for the future. In the mid 1990s virtually all fish vanished from areas of the Firth of Clyde, But a “no-take” zone, where all fishing is banned, set up two years ago in Lamlash Bay of the Isle of Arran in the Firth has resulted in the re-emergence of several sea-based species.

Prof Roberts splashes on Panorama and the Daily Express on the same day while not actually saying anything interesting, new or of much value to anyone. Realised the Daily excess was a joke when I was a kid. Sad to see the BBC turning investigative journalism into advertising for the highest bidder though.

Prof Callum Roberts is one of the leading figures in fisheries science, dont really think this will add to any rod and line fishing argument really. More about conservation on the whole.

I do wonder why the BBC were talking about Lamlash though, it was designated NTZ a while back.

Its the scallop dredging boys that are in question here, not much to worry about as far as rod and line goes.

Although, maybe the antis should go pester the oil companies or such like if they really want to do something constructive and ethical.

Callum Roberts is inspired by Pew and wants total no take zones all over the place - he is not the RSA's friend. He was instrumental in Lamlash Bay becoming a no take zone rather than a no dredging or no trawling zone - which the locals would have been happy with. Thanks to him and his pals at COAST even RSA's have been banned from it for 2 years now. The scallop dredging film was not taken in Lamlash Bay - it's closed, the pics of Lamlash Bay are supposed to make you think the whole seabed would be like that if it wasn't dredged. Personaly I would have prefered to see a 'before' picture of the ACTUAL ground that was dredged - then you could judge the effect dredging had on it

One must not forget that the Daily Express is an adult Comic aimed at the 50 plus brigade who have beome sad cynics and feed on doom and gloom about everything to do with the planet.

The BBC seem to like this Callum Roberts I think that he was the character that they dragged onto countryfile a couple of years back to counter paul Kirkpatricks arguments about the lack of harm that anglers do.

The hard facts are that the cuts will be announced next month and fish and environmental issues will drop well down the scale of priorities as there will be little money to fund many projects apart from those funded by the EU. There will be a few EU obligations to satisfy, but little money to police anythig for a few years, so much of this will end up a political farce as I see it!

Hoping that the mcz's quangos are for the chop, knowing how weak willed the polititions are when it comes to dealing with the money pit eu they will be one of the last to go unfortunatly. The eu will revell in the uk wasting even more of it's money to keep them appeased.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..
