I'm not going to post who, as I don't want to steal his thunder, but a friend has just caught a carp on a roach livebait.

 

He doesn't seem too happy about it :D

never had any on lives, but have had them pick up deads.

Had a few and seen a few take quite large lives at Claydon lake meant for cats.But the real people to ask about this are eel anglers who generally use quite small lives.

 

Ive seen carp taking fry a few times (not to be confused with them just spooking shoals of fry as they pass through them) but only intentionally tried twice. Had only one but a friend (who put me on to it in the first place) has had several.

 

Don't think it will ever become my top tactic for them though as in my few experiences its very isolated that they become that preoccupied on them that you realise/see it and in the case of Claydon its an extremely "hungry" water where even the bream eat mackerel!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Not had one myself, but saw a carp of around 8lb caught on a 6 inch rudd from the next swim while fishing for Cats at slough house near Basildon. it was a real screaming take too, it wasn't messing around!
