As so many of you coarse gentlemen out there are interested in marlin fishing, I've put a piece about marlin on the Sea Fishing forum for you.

Many years ago, I exchanged a Penn 9/0 reel for money and a lot of books. One of the books was "Battles With Giant Fish" by F.A. Mitchell Hedges. The author wrote of the kind of fishing that most of us dream about, but few of us can ever experience. I get the impression that Vagabond is determined to emulate Mitchell-Hedges experiences as closely as possible in a more sophisticated way. Mitchell-Hedges was certainly into exotic fishing and fishing venues. I bet that Vagabond wishes that he still had that book! :D

Andros Island in the Bahamas. There's a NATO Submarine firing range just off it so there are no tourists around resulting in pristine unspoilt surroundings and fishing - tremendous Barracuda..!!

Chevin - I had learnt that book by heart before I swapped it for your 9/0 :D

I still have the original "Danger My Ally" by Mitchell Hedges, which contains the same material in two of its chapters.

The 9/0 has been put to good use as as shark reel, although I prefer to fish 6/0 or lighter these days.

Hope you are keeping your rod bent these days

Hmmm, think I will give that one a miss

Hi Vagabond,I much prefer the 6/0 too. I used the 9/0 on one occasion before trading it to you and I found it to be a lot of hard work. Probably because I never hooked the kind of fish it is meant to deal with while using it. Strange how the heavier tackle comes to life when it is dealing with the fish it is designed to handle. Pleased to hear that you still have it, and I hope you enjoy is as much as I still enjoy the book.
