I use wood shavings.  I have them in bales which I use for the dog kennels so have them at hand.

I Freeze left over maggots - Dead Reds!! but this Sunday, with what's left over, I'll be turning into a pint & a half of casters for Viking Lakes in a fortnights time.

I would use cotton ,dressing them in lycra is figure hugging bit it doesnt wick away the sweat like cottton does ,nylon is a no-no the fish would spend all their time laughing at the maggots wriggling in that ,could be classed as animal cruelty if the rspca find out especially if any have stripes!
