Dick Walker & Clarissa

Black Rabbit

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what tackle Dick Walker was using when he caught Clarissa?

ie, what type of rod did he use? what test curve was it? what reel? what strength line did he use? what hook lenght/terminal tackle? what size hook?

C'mon, someone has the answers I'm sure.

Thanks in advance

Pretty sure the rod would have been a Mark IV!

C.

Yeah, pretty sure I read that some where. I seem to recall that the test curve on these rods was a lot less then modern Carp rods. 1.5 TC I think but I might be wrong. Most modern carpers seem more interested in distance casting then playing action.

Well, it's hardly a secret - lots of accounts of the capture exist both in print and online. Try this one by Walker's friend and fellow Carp Catcher's Club member "BB":

Plenty of accounts exist, as you say Davy

BB's version is perhaps even better than Dick's own

...and Black Rabbit, write out, one hundred times "Dick Walker and Ravioli" :P:P

"Clarissa" was the product of some daft journalist.

That's never 44lb, he's holding it out towards the camera, his hands look too big.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

It's also not Richard Walker! (Is it?)

Amazing to think The Carp Catcher's Club had only 10 members as recently as 1952.

LOL "Lines" were a frequent punishment when I was at school - so much so that I invented a line writing machine consisting of five pens lashed to a ruler. - they had to be more than one ink-well radius apart as they had to each be individually dipped (biros had not been invented)
