Very true, sounds odd but i enjoy going round and speaking to people and seeing them fishing, catching and getting advice nearly as much as i enjoy fishing myself. thanks for the replies

 

And i agree with you Danny Fairbrass is an ass, i dont really like Alex bones either :/

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

This is a strange question but im just curious to see what you all have to say.

 

If somebody asked you who the best runner is you'd probably say Hussain Bolt, best rower, you'd probably say Sir Steven Redgrave etc etc.

 

But if somebody asked you the best fisherman/woman who would you say?

 

 

I would say someone like Mick brown, Matt Hayes or Jan Porter.

Santiago el Campeone might have been fictional, but he was based on Hemingway's own skipper Grigorio Fuentes - Madeira born, he skippered Hemingway's boats for many years. Always kept the boat spotless, and was ace at finding big-game fish. He lived to be over 100 (104 I think) and was still sentient when he died about ten years ago.

 

Certainly a candidate for "best fishing boat skipper"

Who the best fisherman in the world might be I have no idea. There is a potential cast of millions.

This discussion seems to be about who is the best angler on UK television. ;)
