Dave, your visit to Ultima is probably of interest to lots of us. Is there anything else you can tell us?

Yes I have a shed load of information. I actually did three in-depth features for Improve Your Sea Angling Magazine (RIP) when I worked for them.

In all I tested numerous makes of 15lb mono, 20lb braid and 50lb shockleaders. I still have all the information and will pass it on to Elton so he can make a special feature out of it.

Damn! There goes another weekend rolleyes.gif

Oh, go on then, Dave...but I'll need samples...and they'll need to be loaded onto reels...attached to rods...etc...

Brilliant, Dave, I'll really look forward to that. If there was enough for several articles we're all bound to learn something.

I haven't read much about sea fishing for many years. I used to enjoy the sea fishing and game fishing articles in Angling magazine in the late 70s. I seem to remember names like Digger Derrington, John Darling and a host of others.

That's one of the things I like best about Anglers' Net - it covers all three disciplines, whereas printed magazines with their shortage of space are much more focussed nowadays. I wonder if that has contributed to the demise of the all round angler? I still do a bit of trout and sea fishing myself but most of today's youngsters are more specialised. Every other word of theirs is a four lettered one - carp!

Wow I have just read the whole topic and what good information you have all given.I have thought about braid myself but have never had a problem yet with fresh mono so I guess the answer would be dont fix some thing that aint broke.

i use braid on the one rod and normal mono on the other thats when you notice the real differences.

i use the reel with braid on in the areas where i may need to give a bit more force ie. fishing next to sunken trees(factory peg bone hill mill tamworth) another thing i find it difficult using a sliding lead rig to anchor some floating bread in one position it doesn't seem to move that freely but its fine with mono line

i hope this is of some help
